Italy Roadtrippage!

Now here's a tale!

Here we are, living in Nice, France, ever so close to the italian border, I say about 20 minutes with the car not taking the motorway, anyways so here we are. However, it's not just us, there's also this rather well known event known as the Olypmpics, more specifically the Winter Olympics, even more more specifically it's being held in Torino. Now take a car and you'll be from Nice to Torino in maybe 3 hours?

What the poop are we waiting for?! Let's get some copulating tickets to whatever shizz is going on, rent a car or 2 and party 'till we drop in torino! Now this idea wasn't that new, in fact we've been saying it for months, but yeah leave it to us to actually start organising this on a sunday for a planned trip on wednesday.

Anyways, checked online and there were still various events with tickets available. So we booked a rental car! I put one on my card and Soph the other on hers, well, such was the plan, somehow she couldn't book it. She went home, because her card data was all at home, while we tried to book the tickets. No idea why but she failed miserably, such a simple thing as booking a car didn't work, but hey I said I'd drop over and help her out. Prior to me hopping over we decided to order the tickets online off the official olympic site.

Now when this %E^JNW*IIHGFHG&%&(#&^% site says 'buy now' it means there are still tickets. Right? Think again. When you actually go through the entire ordering process you end up at a page saying that tickets are no longer available, but try calling to see whether our operators can help you out....

O_O!!!!!!

So poo, we have one car but no tickets! -_- We couldn't call since it was already midnight. Yay for us organising geniusses! We should have gotten the tickets first and then the damn car....

Anyway, next day we were all trying like crazy to find tickets for events, either we found an event not everyone wanted to go to, or it was too expensive, or time wise it didnt work. That and the lesser known fact that the homosexual Olympic site only accepts VISA!!. Seriously, we all have mastercard, what #H^JH#%O* site only alllows for visa transactions?? O_o Jane was the only one with the booking powers so we were left to twiddle our thumbs. Needless to say once we reached a decision, called everyone, did all the jazz, the tickets that were still there an hour ago, were, well, gone with the not so proverbial wind.

The olympics; nope, not working, quite frank quite a disaster. Here we are with one already paid rental car! One car I already paid for. Away with the olympics, here comes a roadtrip! Not everyone was exactly thrilled, basically it was me and the irish girls that were well up for a roadtrip. The others were hesitant. Fi, Jane and Soph weren't sure yet, but Costas and Dan were up for it. The trip would go to the french grand canyon, absolutely gorgeous, a litle too close for my taste, I'd rather go to Italy now we only have the car for a day better make good use of it. but humbug, so be it.

Finally decided on a plan, phew, gave me time to run to the bank and france telecom to save my phoneline. I forgot to put money in my french account so hadn't paid my phone bill as a result I had france telecom threatening to disconnect my lovely ass. After random french sillyness I ended up having to either send them a letter with a cheque....HELLO FRANCE THE 80S CALLED, THEY WANT THEIR METHODS OF PAYMENT BACK...I mean wtf a cheque??? even worse A LETTER??? Where have the emails, phone numbers, internet banking etc all gone to? or I had to go to a postal office and wire the money through them, of course not without paying them 5 euros for simply filling out a form.. damn frenchies.

Anyways, that monday evening, the phone kept ringing, even when I was under the shower, Costas called asking me when and where I booked my car so he could do the same. Fine. I give him the details, go back to the shower, he calls again about 5 mins later. "Sorry we changed our minds, can't be bothered, sorry mate if you're not using the car we'll pay you our share of the rental car's costs"

o_o ...........!!! Make up your minds people!! Okay so much for half the group. This meant that it was just me, Rhona, Aine (the irish girls) and Rhona's friend (also called Aine). Perfect for one car. I love those girls and knew it'd be a fun trip. They were more up for a roadtrip as opposed to the olympics, as was I really when I gave it some thought.

That night they already invited me over for a glass of wine for all my organising efforts, and to meet Rhona's friend (who turned out to be a doll, she's great) I can literally see their appartment from my window, as they can see mine, so I'm a regular visitor there. Anyways, after loads of wine and good fun we planned to go to Italy! We all agreed on the spiffyness of the idea and were really looking forward to it!

So what started out to be an Olympic adventure turned into an Italy road trip far more adventurous and a lot more fun than the olympics owuld have been.

Tales of the actual roadtrip in the next update!
