CHECK OUT LETTERS RECEIVED ABOUT "CATS OF MIRIKITANI"

Dear Ms. Hattendorf:

Viewed "The Cats of Mirikitani" on PBS.

Absolutely delightful in every way. Heartfelt thanks to you for rescuing
Jimmy. Heartfelt thanks to Jimmy, you, and the entire team for the
wonderful messages/lessons in the film.

I was born in Germany and raised in California. My German mother, as a
young teen, was a pressed into membership in the Hitler Youth, and later
survived the firebombing of Dresden and Russian advance. My father, as a
young adult, was raised in Oregon and witnessed the tragedy of the
collection of Japanese-Americans for internment and the corrupt process of
taking their homes, businesses, and agricultural lands.

We had interesting discussions.

War is but an indication of societal failure.

Three cheers for Jimmy for having remained a pacifist and artist. Three
cheers to you for binging his story to light.

***************

Dear Mr. Mirikitani,

I just saw the film "The Cats of Mirikitani", and I fell into deep admiration of your life and especially your works. My name is Debbie and I live in Kouts, Indiana. I am 40 years old, and have always loved art, but my calling was music. I sing Alto and play the violin. My husband and I have no children, but do I love cats. We had ten until recently, but still have nine currently. I saw all of the peace and joy of the animal in the pictures that you did in the film. I am so sorry for what the government did to you and your family out of a stupid fear and prejudice. I am sure that your memories help those who were imprisoned feel that they have a voice, and you definitely helped me to realize just how wrong and how painful it would be to be ripped from your life and treated like a criminal. Thank you for your beautiful visions and for sharing your talent with the world. Thank you also to the film makers who did a great service to the world by telling your story in such a deep and meaningful way. I am pleased to hear that you are doing well, and are going back to Tule Lake in 2008.
Sincerely,
Debbie Upton
and Cats (Sarah, Lil, Dolly, Fuji, Corky, Ginger, Dani, Tophie, Barbie, and Charlie)
