ADDED AFTER THE FACT: I want to make love to LiveJournal. I thought I had broken one of the cardinal rules of blogging: don't write your post in the post box itself, write it in a word processor in case IE gets wonky. Lo and behold, after staying up til past 1am with comp issues on my laptop at home, here I am at work, intending to post a temp blog until I can get a new version written, and I find LJ has saved my entire post! YAYYYYYYY!!!!!! But, now, to what I was writing..
It's like a bomb went off ever since Lily scrammed. I'm still shellshocked - haven't even closed her cage and cleaned it out yet. I'm surprised I pulled myself together to get some laundry and ironing done Monday, though. Otherwise I've been all "La la la! I'm not going to process anything in my head and just play instead." My head just hurts anyways, I can't hold a consistent thought, it seems.
So before I sink back into thoughtlessness (though I'm going to try to catch up with my f-list soon), I should make a sincere shoutout to
liabrown in thanks for the Weather Wizard and Calc pics! Lego Calc seriously needs to be in the Lego Batman game, and the mancleavage can be quite distr...............acting... *wipes drool* ..from the Jeff Altman hair, that is. :D
Things that I've been up to? Well, two weekends ago my family and I flew out to Indiana for a day or two to go to the Penn State/Purdue football game (Purdue got tromped - par for the course). It was the first time we'd gotten my brother's wife out to experience the slower way of things in the Midwest and the first time we'd been back since my grandma passed two Junes ago. We got to go see the old ranch, then visit with some old family friends who are much more family than friend. We also met up with some of Paul and Lindsay's friends from PSU who were groomsmen in the wedding, and we took them by The Beefhouse for dinner (doesn't sound so vegetarian-friendly, but in spite of their serious steaks and other items, you could stuff yourself on their exquisite salad bar and (!) homemade yeast rolls with strawberry jam). I almost got a dozen rolls to take back to the office, but they wouldn't've been as good a couple days later, and there's no way I could get on the plane with a jar of their jam in my checked bags (DAMN YOU TERRORISTS!).
This last weekend, Friday night was all sorts of good. A crew from work went down to our normal haunt, the Manayunk Brew Pub, to watch the Phils win against the Dodgers. Then it was off to an apt-warming/b-day party for one of our colleagues with much fun hanging out. Then the party meandered on over to a newly-opened western-themed college bar (we got free passes, even). And, between losing everyone in the club for several moments, then there was the mechanical bull-riding!* Then I wound up driving my boss/good friend Jeff back to the office where he had left his car since his ride decided to stick around some more (and it apparently got a bit crazy after we left, with someone (not in our party) getting hit by a car. I swear, before this year I've neer been to a club - I haven't missed much.
*ahem. *clears throat to get out a line she hadn't used on anyone yet RE: the bull* *John Wayne voice* I dunno about you, pilgrim. But frankly, it felt good to have a bull between the legs again! *regular voice* I swear, the guy who was operating that bull wound up just doing little quick shakes side to side at the end, and with the way my legs were holding the bull so I was sitting up slightly so it didn't faze me too much...it, well, I almost think he was trying to...it could've gotten lewd if it weren't so public. But I must've held on for a good long while because I was getting high-fives from complete strangers.
On Saturday, my dinette set came as well.
Have pics! I'm half-surprised because it hews closer to my mental image of what I wanted than I expected I'd find. I was going for something "cottage-y." Now I just need to find dishes, glasses, and placemats. And a liquor cabinet - too many bottles to keep in the fridge anymore. And honestly, while work has taken me over to the dark side of enjoying alcohol and led me to hold my drink pretty darn well by now, I don't think I'm an alcoholic. I'm more an artistic drinker - the sheer creativity involved in cocktail creation, or learning the subtle differences in Italian red wines..it's just another medium. And I get perfectionistic - if I'm having pasta and red sauce with a simple salad for dinner then I absolutely must have a red wine to go with it, preferably Italian. Or if I'm doing Mexican, then it's some margarita variation, do not pass Go. I feel guilty about skipping alcohol for milk in cases like that, because it detracts from the Big Picture of the meal. Feels like my life is a jumble of assorted pieces that don't quite go together, so the least I can do is create a "whole" with my meals. Although this doesn't discount me suddenly getting brainstorms for new cocktail ideas just because - I'm becoming known at happy hour for spontaneously coming up with new recipes (Dark Snowball: coke, Stoli blueberry, blue curacao). Now I have to keep up my cred with new ideas - right now I'm working on a line to be named after the Rogues (see
flash_rogues soon for deets).
Other than that, I've been crashing. I knew this was probably a bad (addictive) idea from the start, but I recently got The Sims 2 for my GC - I tend not to allow myself time to space out and let my mind unwind now that I have my own place. Plus, I'm finding that with these exquisitely-designed video games like Zelda and even The Sims, they have a way of imparting a sense of order to life that is very soothing. Just balancing these Sims' lives has been a breath of fresh air from which I've been taking pointers. Not to mention, one game of The Sims lets you create 4 four-person families that can all interact with each other. Here are the names of the families I've created: Violetta/Brid/Izzy/Meduse, Muse/Sparta/Sango/Bettina, James/Hartley/Mick/Owen, Len/Mark/Evan/Noah! It's nuts. Some of them have even died and been resurrected. And Sparta and Bettina are apparently lovers and I have no idea how that happened.
And I've blathered on enough for a few weeks. Comments and hopefully more fic to come soon.
