roast dinner

Everyone expects vegetarians to fall for bacon, but I never liked it (the taste is never as good as the smell, so disappointing.)

I used to miss sausages, but now there's good vege sausages. I still miss massive juicy steaks but c'est la vie.

Roast dinner, though. Yum.

So I'm delighted to have discovered a good, easy, cheap vege roast.

Thanks for posting this - D & I also love our Sunday roast and have been bereft since Granose stopped doing nut roast mixes. This looks like a viable substitute. When you say 'dried soya', is that the same as TSP (textured soya protein), which I already use as mince substitute?

That's the stuff. Usually I get the savoury brown type but this was the neutral flavour.

Gytha used to do a fabulous white nut roast, involving smoked nuts, sadly, I think it died with her. Sad face.

I can't stand the taste of dried sage and onion stuffing, or I would give this a go (I'm not a veggie, but I love veggie food and I'm always up for new recipies).

Best veggie recipe I made on the fly (at St Briavels, with 10 minutes notice) - two field mushrooms per person, topped with fried onion, pine nuts and a few currents/dried fruit of choice. Grate cheddar cheese over the top and whop under the grill. Delicious.
