I went and spent two hours in the movie theater watching Matrix Revolutions. My feelings behind the
.
Well, I felt compelled to see the move because I'm a completist. Although I was disappointed with Reloaded I thought I'd give Revolutions a chance.
The special effects were awesome. But the philosophical magic of the first is gone in my opinion. Through trying to answer the questions raised in the first, they provided answers that ended up ringing hollow.
And I was hoping that the history of the batteries that defies the laws of thermodynamics would have been revealed as just poor information but unfortunately it was reinforced in this movie.
And what was up with The Kid? In Animatrix they allow him to self substantiate out of the Matrix. You would think that would set him up to be a more important character than he ends up being.
The only redeeming part is how the movie ends with a truce between Man and Machine. How long will it last? Will Man be content to just let those that freely choose to leave the Matrix do so? Or will they force the issue by trying to free them all? Is there any final answer? Not really. Coexisting beliefs are all that matter. No side is right. No side is wrong.
The movie is worth a rent on DVD but not really worth the ticket price to see on the big screen in my opinion unless you go to a matinee. They should have just left well enough alone with the first movie.
EDIT: Upon reflection my feelings towards the movie are mellowing. I'll probably update my opinion in the near future as I mull over the movie a little more so please take my initial feelings with a grain of salt.
