Ok, so I was talking to manager X, my antithesis of management, yesterday and I learned some new things about life.
1) According to him, being a guy allows you to exhude hostility whenever you like. He thinks he can do this because "he won't act like a woman". He takes offense at the smallest things and then wonders why people are being "insubordinate" to him. I think everyone picks up on his hostility and reacts to it. He has no idea that he sets himself up for these situations bases on how he reacts. I always have this visual of Manager X as a primate beating his chest like a gorilla.
2) All managers are supposed to back each other up and agree with each other ALWAYS. Each time Manager X comes to talk to me about some situation that has happened between himself and another associate, I think he expects me to just be a yes man/woman and just agree that he has done the right thing. When it comes to this job, which I love, I am no yes person. I try to tell him my opinion and he accuses me of "defending" the associate. But that's because he's WRONG! But hey, yesterday I told him pretty much to stop coming to me because we have different management styles as well as relationships with the assocatiates. He obviously doesn't want my way of doing things.
All I can say is that he is leaving.....soon (gleefully)! Countdown has begun.
I have learned so much from Manager X, more than I ever thought I would learn from one such as him. Unfortunatly I could never tell him that it is because of his horrible way of doing things. So I will say it here. Thanks X!!!
