Well...the next day was an adventure to the city of Pisa. Pisa is a stark contrast to Lucca; it is loud, touristy, dirty, and jam packed. Yet there is still a ton to see. Of course upon arriving we were greeted by the Leaning Tower and a ton of vendors.
We were able to leave and explore and get lunch. However, we all had to meet at the Piazza dei Miracoli (Square of Miracles) after an hour. I went with some of my peeps and got some sandwiches (involving a bandaid, but hey we were hungry!)
Then we went on a tour given by a local student. O i almost forgot. That morning we went to the "Charterhouse". It was this HUGE monastery that used to house a few monks that could only talk/interact a few times a year. The building was exquisite. St. Bernard de Chartoix (I think that is the name) founded the order.
The tour of Pisa was nice. We went to the big Cathedral. Then we were given time to do our thang. I went to go see frescoes that had been damaged in World War II at the cemetary. AMAZING. CHECK out my pictures some time. Then we went to the baptistry. They were always built seperate from the church because non-Catholics were not allowed to enter until baptism. The Baptistry was very large and this lady did an aria on the hour..it was angelic.
That night ate dinner and went out. Sorry this entry was rushed. I am running a 5k tomorrow against Hate...maybe...we're not registered but my company is sponsoring it. So we'll see what happens. We leave at 6am!!! AH
Take care ya'all. I will write more soon.
