A little absurdity...
At evil Wal-Mart with a holiday gift card, buying ingredients for oatmeal cookies. They don't carry oat bran. I trudged forlornly -and slightly desperately- up and down the breakfast and baking aisles, trying to will it onto the shelves. Finally I admitted defeat, consoled myself with a box of ice cream treats and got in the checkout line. You know how impulse products are set up at the registers, like Twix and TicTacs? Well now there's Margaritas in a pouch! "THE ALCOHOL IS IN IT!" the label screams! Freeze and enjoy at home "or on the go". The phrase "on the go" is printed on the package in TWO different places. The 5th ingredient was wine. I felt a little ashamed. Ahead of me 3 Spanish-speaking women with a baby in a car seat were attempting to buy 6 canisters of Similac, possibly with a food voucher, but a manager turned them down. When it was my turn I said the to cashier "Wal-Mart doesn't carry---" as I spoke she turned her head from the register towards me, and as the words "oat bran" came out I saw her face tattoo. "What's oat bran?" she asked. I said it was a baking ingredient. She wished me a happy New Year.
