1:54 PM Aye yae yae...
So... I left this morning at 10:40 to go to Akron to fly to my aunt's house in PA (stopping in Detroit first) to help take care of her boys while she and her husband are in Turkey. COMPLETE AND TOTAL FIASCO.
I left the flight information at home so I didn't know what airline i was flying on, or what my flight number was. [3:26] So I called my mom (at grandma and grandpa's house) and got the info after a little bit of trouble.
At this point we were following highway signs to the airport, but then they disappeared and the exit the map showed we needed to take...just...wasn't...there. Anywhere. Gahhhhh. We were totally turned around, finally got somewhere where we could follow a road, and we found an airport. ... The wrong one. I had misread the map and we were going to some private airport the size of a postage stamp. Wh-hoo.
We turned around to get out of there, but there 8000 detours and roadblocks. At one of them we turned down a street and tried to get around it but we just wound up in one of those obnoxious neighborhoods that go in endless loops and have only one or two entrances. Finally from there we got back to the highway and to the correct airport.
I was really lucky. Security took about ten minutes, tops, although there was this guy who cut me in line and got really nasty when my dad pointed this out. Still, it was nice to get through quickly. I had a ticket that said my seat was not yet assigned, so after I bought a snack (really gross pizza pretzel thing) I waited until my name was called and they printed real boarding passes for me. We boarded pretty soon after that, so I wasn't late or running to make it at all. Yay!
It was a tiny plane. Eleven rows, and I was in the last one, but I was in one of the window seats, which was nice. :)
When I got to Detroit, I made my way [4:30] from concourse C to concourse A, and I got to ride the shuttle, which I thought was really cool. It's up above the gates on one side, and it was so much better than walking.
So then I sat. And waited. I messed around with a new program on my computer trying to get it to work so I could play solitaire, but the instructions were really unclear, and even after I did figure out what I was supposed to do, it didn't work right. So I need to get on the website and see how to fix it, but I wasn't about to pay $8 to do that, do that will happen tonight or tomorrow. So then I started working on this, but since I wasn't gonna pay for internet i can't post it 'til I get to my aunt's house.
Then they told us there was a half hour delay because of air traffic. Then there was another half hour delay. Now we are finally on the plane.
[5:38] We're totally up in the air now, finally. We sat at the gate for several minutes, and then we went out to the runway where we sat for quite a while. At 5:08 (this was a 3:45 flight...) we were informed that we would be leaving at 5:31, but luckily we managed to begin driving to where we could taxi a bit sooner than that. Now we're finally on our way.
I know I sound whiny, and I know Detroit and the NY/NJ area is a terrible combination as far as getting anywhere on time. However, I'm hungry and have been bored.
On a totally unrelated note, it makes me incredibly happy that my new computer reads 66% battery and 7:09 hours remaining. My old computer had 1:45 minutes on 10% if I was lucky. =P
