Sunday: Woke up early, got ready, packed the last of my stuff and went to the AFS office in Bangkok where other AFS ers were waiting. We left on a huge Air Conditioned bus to Chaing Mai. Allong the way we talked watched Kill Bill 2, Euro Trip, and Shrek 2. Ate lunch that they brought for us. I didn't like it it was kinda cold and greasy. Had dinner at Big C. It's like a super wal mart wiht some stores @ and a food court. I got a bad headache and when we got to the hotel I took tylenol, a shower, and went to bed.
Monday: woke up, went to breakfast, saw the other people that had comm not by the bus that I didn't get to see last night. Then we got on the bus and drove to this place where we did this jump thing. We got strapped into this backpack thing, climbed a tower 30-40 feet, it remimded me of going up to go down a water slide except when we got to the top here we had or ackpacks attached to a bunge rope thing, and jumped off... free fall, but we didn't bunge really, the bunge was on a cable so we rode in the air for a little but to the end where we landed on a hill thing. At the same place there were these miniature horses-ponys. Oh it was sooo much fun. hah, yea....it ws like a pony ride you do as kids. We had lunch there and then went back to the hotel. There we did broke off into groups and alked about our exchange, cultural things, school, etc. that was our only thing like that the whole time. For dinner we went to this super touristy (but nice) restraunt where we sat on the floor and had a triditional Northern Thai Dinner. Complete wiht thai dancing, and they took tourists and had then try to dance with them at the end. But that wasn't all we went to this building with wooden bleachers set @ and had more show things there.
Tuesday: Breakfast then went to Doi Suthep. It was up in the Mountians so we took trucks with benches in the back, but there were walls and a roof. We got dropped off a t at templt there were over a hundred stairs to get to it. It was ok. Going to so many temples would be like going to all the churces in the US. Once you've seen one or two the others aren't a big deal. There were shoping places @ and below we spent some time there. I bought a ring, I like it. Then we went to lunch downtown. Next we had a visit with a school planned, but we really didn't want to go this was our week away from school. I went wiht a group and made lanna flags. Lanna is refered to the northern part of Thailand. It wasnt that fun. We got to see a drumming demenstration and the music room, but yea... Finally it was over and we went back to the hotel. We had some free time. I went out with some people to a market, but first the truck driver took us to a temple that had almost the same name as the market, and when we got to the market it wasn't the same one the person had been to before- we were close and passed it going back. Then we went to dinner at an all you can eat steak buffet. But they had other stuff pasta, etc. Then the night Bazaar. Ohh that was fun! I didn't really buy that much, but I've started to think in Thai Baht than the exchange into US dollars. Either that or things were cheap there. I was happy to have other people with me bargening. I bought some sneakers, a couple scarves, a painted hair thing, anf somthing for my two little brothers. But we went back the next night.
Wednesday: after breakfast we got on the bus and drove for what seeed like forever to this in the mountany away from everything elephant place. At first I sorta didn't like the idea of riding elephants. not because I was scared or anything but because I don't think it's right to be riding elephants as a tourist attraction etc. We got on, by twos, I rode wiht a girl from Belgum. The ride was sorta long and and about halfway I sorta started not enjoying it. The scenery, and everything was nice. Except I din't like riding elephants or the fact the people 'driving' then had these what were hook things on an axe like handle that they hit the elephants wiht. On there foreheads some elephants had bruises, open wounds, and indentations where the hook was used. I was glad to get off. We were dropped off at the little 'villiage' sorta. There were afew houses and places to but things. The we took an oxen cart back. These were thai oxen there white/dirty have these hump things on the back of there necks and look sick to me. One of ours had whip marks, but atleast they were treated whth what looked like iodine. We got back to where we tarted and saw an elephant show, that wasn't too bad. Then lunch at the place. Next we got onto bamboo rafts with benches, they fit 6 people and there was a person in the from and back to steer. That was nice and fun, The scenery was beautiful. After that we drove back and had more free time. A group of us went to this art gallery which had an exhibition of paintings of the quuen downstairs and this weird German TV thing upstairs. It was interesting, the TV thing. One of the AFSers had gotten weirded out by t yesterday when he saw it alone. Then back to the hotel and to the Night Bazaar again. I went to this araibic restraunt with some people. The food was good we shared alot of it. Then shopping. I got some pants, there this thai fisherman type, some pillow cases, a cool belt, a book, umm, I can't think of anything else. Met up with some ther peopl and went back to the hotel.
Thursday/Friday: Soo tired by now. Packed up everything and went down to breakfast. Some people wen't comming wiht us the last day b/c they lived up north. We drove for awhile and went to a silk, a lacqre wear, jewerly, and unbrella factory. Not all the same one 4 differnt places. They all had show rooms where the things were soo expensive. I don't think anyone bought anything, and wasted a whole bunch of time. WE got to go @ this one village market area, things were really cheap there. I bought a new pair of flip flops, and a coupple fans. Then we left for the big trip back. Allong the way we dropped people off at the buss station. We started to watch Mona Lisa Smile, then ent to dinner the same place we did the first night. Watched the rest of the movie then watched Harry Potter one of them. I went to sleep towards the end I was tired. Then at 3:30 we arrived at the AFS office. Man. I fell asleep on the coutch with a bunch of others and there were other spread @ the building. I got up at 6:30 or so. @ 8 some people left for busses etc. and by the time I got picked up by Chaleau at 9:30 there were only afew left. I said goodbye to Valentina who lives in Sardenia, Italy. She was leaving for home. I got back to my house ended up not going with my host dad. And sleeping
