sad, sad, sad...
I've been lucky enough to not have to deal with racism first hand. Being a female asian usually works to my favour. It never really crosses my mind as something that happens ALL THE TIME. There are a lot of ignorant people out there.
One of the cooks at the Met is Jewish. Super nice guy. Friendly and gets along with everyone. He's young, about 20-ish. His girlfriend bought him a 50cent calendar 'cuz he's super into hip hop. He put it up on the wall at work near his station so he could mark off daily pars, days off, etc. He came to work one morning and found that someone had drawn a swastika on his calendar. He took it down and threw it away. The managers found out and launched an investigation. They reviewed the surveillance videos, questioned everyone working the previous day and held staff meetings to find out what anyone knew. they wanted the person fired and escorted out by police. No luck though. They didn't find anything. So now he has to come to work knowing that some ignorant fucking asshole is working with him fully content with what he had gotten away with.
