- Essay: An Important But Rarely Discussed Lesson of the Stanford Prison Experiment, by Scott Barry Kaufman.
While this is certainly a valuable lesson, I believe another crucial variable at play that is rarely mentioned by commentators of the prison experiment or even in psychology textbooks is the person. Yes, power corrupts. But power does not corrupt everyone equally.

The Hobbit | Gen; Original Dwarf Character | G | ~ 660 words
A Dwarf traveling through the Shire comes across a legendary object.

The Hobbit | Gen; Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield, Thorin's company | PG-13 | ~ 5,900 words
"Licking his dry lips, Bilbo gathered up his quailing courage and stretched a hand out to the air directly above the mushrooms. They stopped precisely at the boundary, and he let out a resigned breath. This is a bad day to be a Hobbit, he moaned to himself, before sucking in a breath and nodding to himself,
But better Hobbit than Dwarf, today."
-- > Interesting and creepy world-building. Great Bilbo. Would love to read more.

The Hobbit | Bilbo Baggins/Thorin Oakenshield (not the focus); Thorin's company | PG-13 | ~ 19,000 words
The Company shows their affection for Bilbo in accordance with dwarvish tradition. Bilbo... has no idea why everyone keeps giving him gifts.
(Dwarves give gifts of craft to start friendships or romance. Everybody lives AU, canon-compliant through the first movie.)
-- > Love all the dwarves here, every-one has their own time in the spotlight. Love their interactions with Bilbo, and how Bilbo views them.

The Lord of the Rings | Gimli/Legolas | PG-13 | ~ 21,000 words
“I was wondering,” Gimli had said at the beginning of it. “Isn't it about time you get started on that boat of yours?”
It has been over one hundred years since the War of the Ring. Gimli and a dwarf girl named Mâglah help Legolas build his ship to sail into the west. While they are working, Legolas realizes that there are a lot of things that have been long unexpressed between him and his dearest friend, things that must be said and done before it is too late.
-- > This is an original take to this pairing. It's so lovely, and sweet, and melancholic. I love Legolas' voice here, and I love his relationship with Gimli.
