The Year is 197-, the place is Am-, and your life just isn’t what it should be, what it could be. You stumble forlornly through a decaying nation suffused with paranoia and fear, with vague glimpses of a better time, a better place, a different world: a world that embraces life, art, love, and wonder. You spend your days wandering like a colour cut-out in a black and white world, but you can feel it all slowly bleeding out and fading away. Drugs help, so does sex, and music, and art, but it’s never enough. Your nights are spent in a desperate attempt to feel something, anything, and the hope that your dreams will take you to a place called…Amber.
You play ‘normal’ people caught up in a shifting tide of conspiracy, metaphysics, drugs, and lost dreams who struggle through a night of soul-altering experiences. Unlike the majority of humankind, you hang on to an image of a better world, but is that your blessing or your curse?
Soundtrack by David Bowie, T.Rex, Brian Eno, Roxy Music, Lou Reed, Sweet, Iggy Pop, Elton John, and more!
Can Amber be Glam? - Is Bleys the nazz?
Rules: The game will use a modified/simplified, diceless version of Changeling: The Dreaming by White Wolf to represent the struggles of our “dreamers” against the forces of Banality and Bedlam. If we are playing well, this game should include sex, drugs, music, and other potentially *adult* themes!. PS Anyone dressed appropriately GLAM during the game will receive a bonus!
*Source Background: In the 1970s Zelazny published the 1st Amber series and co-wrote a novel, Deus Irae, with Philip K. Dick, who also published such works as Flow, My Tears, A Scanner Darkly, We Can Build You, and more in the same decade. Zelazny also dedicated his 1973 novel Today We Choose Faces, to Dick. This decade also saw Michael Moorcock finish the first Jerry Cornelius sequence and the publication of Samuel Delany’s Dhalgren and Titan. All in all, the 70s were an era of intellectual, metaphysical, and sexual multiplicity. This game intersects the *real* 1970s, a decade of economic disparity, political distrust, social and chemical experimentation, New Wave SF, and alternate realities.Plus, I really love the movie Velvet Goldmine.
This would be a tough one as it is mostly player motivated, role-playing heavy....thoughts?
Or..
Empire of the Pearl
Amber as directed by Akira Kurosawa. The Empire of the Pearl is the center of the World, dominating the shoals and islands of reality and ruled by the Dragon Emperor, descendant of the Gods of the Sun and Moon. But the Emperor is dying and has declared no formal heir...
Basically a samurai style throne war with light magic, hopefully heavy on intrigue and swordplay as different factions seek the Throne. Had a cool idea to use the board of the Milton Bradley game Shogun as a map to show key locations and the maneuvering of mighty armies! Possibility here for a lot of cool conflict, battles, etc. Work intensive game though....
So that's what i have (plus the ever elusive Amber: The Movie game that will be run one day dammit!) Holding these in reserve if no one else answers the clarion call!
