It's Still Alive...

Yeah, that's me. Have been catching glimpses of everyone else's LJ, man I just sort of dropped out of everything the past month and a half, or more.... So, what have I been doing?
Okay, well the sabbatical will continue into Fall quarter. I may not go back to teaching. But, summer has seen me fulfill my standard summer role of "Stay at home dad", so it hasn't really felt like "sabbatical" since my daughter got out of school (it's her first "summer break!") and we cut off the day care people for half the weeks of the summer for the two year old as well. Have been to the Zoo, the beach, half the parks in the central Western Washington Area, and have also slipped on my vigil against children oriented stupid TV shows and watched a bunch of that, too. (On the flipside, my daughter and I have worked our way through a lot of Buffy shows, and my 2 year old son can pick out Superman, Batman, and the Flash in a line up, so....)

Have seen more Hollywood films in the theatre this summer than in total for the previous year. Dark Knight, Hellboy 2, The Love Guru (Hey, my brother paid!), Iron Man, etc. Most have been surprisingly good- even Love Guru (okay, but the expectations were really low on that one. The musical parts were good, love the acoustic sitar version of Steve Miller's The Joker, and the bollywood ending- not as good as Hustle's bollywood episode though.) Oh, and man was WANTED horrible. The comic was OK, the visuals were appealing (though I would love to see the original proposal for a Secret Society of Supervillains comic that it supposedly developed from) but the movie couldn't even get that much down. Blech!

Big bonus of the last month and a half, have been up to
cochese's twice for gaming!!!! and it looks like it will continue to happen! Ran a Deadlands game that was pretty fun, then cochese ran a Fading Suns game that was good too.  It also looks like we two may be co-running a Grindhouse Double Feature game at ACNW! I'm thinking "Punk Rock Apocalypse" and he has mentioned the possibility of "Chaingang Amazons vs. the Snakeagator!" so, that has the potential for brainmelting craziness.

Also thinking of running another, more serious game at ACNW. Main contender right now : The Empire of the Pearl. aka Kurosawa's Amber. comments?

Have finished 3 stories, am putting them through the touch up/formatting stage and then seeking publication. Two are horror, the other a fantasy.  Have about 3 others in various stages of drafting. Not bad, but I was hoping to hit some kind of prolific output by the halfway point of my sabbatical.

I'm sure there's something I'm forgetting. Like Comics. Maybe a new post ranting about the Comics Industry....
