My dear Miss Winterhill,
It has come to my most felicitous attention that today is your birthday. I would be sorely remiss were I to ignore this fact and let the day go by without any mention of such a momentous event. It is not upon everyday that one is born. Indeed, it is only upon a singular day in the entirety of all existence. To celebrate the occasion of such an occurrence with an annual wishing of health and well-being upon one's dearest and most regarded acquaintances, much less one's highest regarded friends, seems quite proper and prudent.
Know then, that I have only the warmest of regard for you and would even venture forth to visit were it not for the plague of undead that ravages our dear nation, leaving travel a dubious prospect at best. Why, only last week did three ladies set forth to visit their mother when they were set upon by the vile creatures that were once like us. Two of the ladies escaped, fleeing with great expedition, but sadly one was lost to the monstrous appetites of the afflicted. Worse yet, one of the ladies that had thus escaped was injured and succumbed to the plague that very evening. Out of the three, only one sister continued onwards to their mothers home. A much sadder homecoming, I am sure.
I shall continue to hold you in high esteem in my heart, until we shall meet again and I may do so in person. I pray, as always, that your land is spared the plague that has afflicted mine. I can only imagine the horror of some of the odd creatures you have described to me falling to the plague and seeking to rend the flesh of the living. I have nightmares of those odd beasts you call roos, thundering across the open land to fall upon other creatures and devour them entirely. I tremble at the very thought!
You must be brave and continue to keep watch for the signs as I have told you. With perseverance and prudence, we shall once again share tea together, discussing nothing more weighty than gentlemen and fashion in the manner which I am told the ladies used to hold tea.
Until then, dear friend, remain calm and keep the shotgun loaded.
I remain always your dearest friend,
Thaddeus Favour
