Yeah. Fatfred hinted at that. I peeked. I would suspect that person does NOT live in a rural area.

Over on my friends journal, there was quite a debate. Someone actually tried to make the argument that we don't need libraries because everyone can afford to buy books. And the really good line: People who don't have money for food don't read.

Sadly, I don't think this person is kidding.

Glad I got the word out!

Librarians over here are among the worst-paid university graduates for the amount of study undertaken. (One of my parents has Library qualifications but doesn't work as a librarian because of the pay issues.) Money for public access to education is so fraught and the financial crisis hasn't helped. I'm not sure I can help more practically than send my hopes that you guys succeed, because libraries are both expensive and necessary :)

That is so sad. It seems like most countries take jobs pertaining to knowledge and eduction too lightly. In my mind, they are the most important things we could ever support.

That's okay. Knowing you're there helps. And hey, if you see any Floridians hanging about, slap 'em upside the head and send them over! ::grin::

Good one. I've never lived in a truly rural area. I can only imagine what closing libraries in those areas would mean to folks.

Well, you get used to the library not having many books, to start with. (I have lived in a very small area.) But for the poor, if it was their only way to get on the computer/do homework/check out movies/apply for work..*sigh*
