(no subject)
So, I guess I'll talk about what I've done in Ys: The Oath in Felghana (this is like a remake of a remake of a remake of Ys 3, which comes after Ys 4... don't even ask lol)
So I'm only going to explain random parts of the story I guess idk but there will be some spoilers. I'm not really far enough for there to be much of real spoilers yet though?
I'm both glad and not glad I got the voices working. Dogi's voice is so funny. It's not exactly good but I really like it. You can tell the VA had a lot of fun recording it, and that's good. This line was particularly fun, made it a lot funnier than when he said it without voice :P
Elena has a nice voice and is really cute. I always like the 'girl next door you're supposed to crush on main character girl' or whatever. Like I love Makihara and Hoshikawa from TM3 and TM4, I love the 'main' girl from every Rune Factory, etc XD And I like Ys's girls too.
After the little prologue scene, you get the intro animation. It's so long and boring... the music isn't that cool and it's mostly just panning shots of environments. It doesn't even showcase much of the characters or story. Not nearly as good as the intros to Ys Origin and Ark of Napishtim which were the games made just after and just before this one iirc.

But he's only on the screen for like a second. I don't even think Edgar is in the opening?! It's really lame. It takes like 3-4 minutes too or something... After I got my sound working I started yet another new file to hear the voices from the beginning, and so I had to see this again... I went into the other room and had a little chat for a bit, went to the bathroom, and came back, and the intro was STILL playing. It's way too long and boring -_-
The first weird thing about the voices: THE NARRATION IS VOICED? Like... but this is all the narration is, is little things like "Adol introduced himself" or "Adol used the key on the door" and like this weird narrator like says it WAY too dramatically???
THIS IS THE WORST FACKING VOICE EVER I WAS SO MAD. I actually thought Margo was kinda fun until hearing her voice??? (I had played through the little town intro part before just to see what the game was like) but she is HORRIBLE with voice like... this is the worst and most annoying voice I've ever heard LOL like the person who is doing it just randomly accentuates random words and stuff? And like says everything SO slow and like ridiculously dramatic/weird like... I just hate it so much LOL
And that's kind of the problem with all the voices in this game. Everyone talks REALLY slow and tries to make generic NPC townie lines SUPER DRAMATIC when they don't need to be... But the worst is how slow it is... I can't stand to sit and listen to it X_X
So, everyone is mad that Hottie McSexy has closed off the quarry and like blames him for trying to ruin the town or something, because the quarry is the main source of income for the town. But recently there has been a lot of monsters around so merchants aren't coming anyway.

"pound metal like nobody's business" Gardner's voice is kinda cute but he also talks super slow.
This guy is ugly but his voice is SO SEXY it's annoying. Also "KILL ME DEAD" lol.
"Papa Edgar" ^_____^ He's not here though because he's in the quarry at this point.
So, anyway, Edgar (hot mustache Mayor and Elena's adoptive father) apparently is trapped in the quarry and Dewey (the head miner) is looking for him. But then Dewey didn't come out either and someone came to town looking for someone to help, but everyone in town is weaklings and the one strong guy was gone so it's up to Adol who randomly just arrived in this town lol.
So I go down and meet Dewey who is hot in theory but has a terribly poor actor for his voice, and his art looks a little wonky to me, but Ys games are just ... kinda like this.
Apparently Edgar is deeper in the mine but Dewey can't go any further because the monsters there are impossible to fight or something (the monsters just SUDDENLY burst from the quarry, so Edgar was already further in when they appeared, looking for some ruins they found).
So he gives you a key to go back to this storage room to see if you can find anything to fight the monsters, and you meet this guy:
Who is kinda hot?!?!? I love how he's like a mummy with clothes??? And the black gloves or whatever <3
I beat him (he was kinda hard but not too bad) and went in the storage room and got fireballs magic XD It's kinda weak; I'm sad. Even the charged version after getting a Ruby. I kinda like how magic was really important in other games.
It took me a long time to realize what I was supposed to do make this chest appear? I was really weirded out there was like a weird translucent chest. But I just had to like... light that torch thing that was on the wall kinda behind it with the fireball magic. It had a Ruby in it so that's good (ruby = stronger fireball)

He wanted me to go in this room behind him and "see what was in there" you know... just for fun? IDK. So there was a boss wtf :) And it was REALLY annoying and hard. It could kill you in a few hits and required kind of annoying precision and idk it just wasn't exactly fun? I've heard a lot of people complain about Ark of Napishtim but praise this game for having better bosses and mechanics, but honestly the two bosses I've fought so far have been pretty lame compared to Napishtim's first bosses...?
Anyway I only took the screencap as she was dying, oops, so she's like mostly disappeared and I think her wings fell off or something.
Anyway then McSexy's right-hand Knight comes and scolds Edgar & co. for continuing to go in the quarry after Lord McGuire closed it down, and says the reason that he is hurt is because he went in when it was dangerous and he wasn't supposed to.
And like honestly I realize it is their source of income or whatever but when there is danger inside killing like almost everyone who enters, I don't think it's that unreasonable to close off the quarry? At least not enough to be like "WHAT A TYRANT HE IS PURE EVIL"
Like, they try to make this knight guy sound like he's definitely doing the ~evil job~ by coming and scolding Edgar who is clearly the good guy because he's related to Elena who is a cute girl but... like... IDK I FEEL LIKE HE IS DEFINITELY BEING REASONABLE lol. Other than drawing him with angry face and making him a little rude about it, I think they did a bad job of making the bad guys seem evil at this point, since... idk, having safety regulations doesn't really seem evil to me LOL.
Though it does hint at another point that McGuire is trying to find some kinds of artifacts or something to gain power, and one is in the quarry but... the people in the town know NOTHING of this, only that there are monsters bursting out and McGuire said don't go in LOL
Also they say he's from Romn because for some reason in Ys that means you're ~so evil~ like... everyone from Romn is just evil for no reason LOL. Admiral Agares is from Romn XD I guess I really have a thing for Romun nobles or something XD
So did he pressure you or force you?
I mean I guess that's KIND OF evil but... XD That's pretty standard government things really LOL. I mean the taxes, though honestly people are pressured into labor today in modern democracies and stuff too so whatever lol. And if he's just pressuring you into working in the mine well... that's what you were already doing so wtf???
I talked to this little girl and she mentioned something shiny being in the well so I examined the well and found some ore it was cool XD Generally in Ys, you can't interact with anything but people and treasure chests so there are never little things like this XD
This is the little girl, she's cute and has the best voice because she TALKS REALLY FAST LOL
This lady is kinda interesting, she just constantly tells you to go away (after every major event, you can talk to everyone and they'll say different stuff, often they kinda have little substories for each character, at least other Ys games were like that), though once she said something like... "Oh you went in the mine and saw the bridge-- no, just go away" LOL and like yeah I genuinely feel bad for talking to her but I always want to check on her even though I'm just making her uncomfortable XD
I saw this guy and either he or the other Priest dude looks so different in the like... PS2 version of this game? Which... this game is a complete remake of that one but... the PS2 character designs were SO DIFFERENT.

Count McGuire is on the left and Mayor Edgar is on the right. SO DIFFERENT LOL. Everyone is different, though. I like the PS2 versions too though... McGuire is hot in a completely different way and Edgar is... OK. I mean he has a mustache but it's weird like they just drew it quickly and it doesn't have as much detail as everything else, and he's also super buff for no reason, when he's a mayor, not some kind of strongman, and he's supposed to be like... weak and injured for the whole game so making him look like that takes away from that? Chubby Edgar is much better IMO XD But not to say that muscle Edgar is bad per se...
Anyway, that's about as far as I've gotten. I've gone off to the next part where you're supposed to go the ruins or temple or whatever but haven't done much there.
