nine eleven rant and rave 'r us

On this day September 11th six years ago one of our nations Greatest tragedies occurred. The debate about whether it was provoked or not may be a never ending one.

The silly thing of it all is that we have more or less the same administration today as we did that morning six years ago.

Our president say and read "his favorite book" along with the children of an elementary class. His book was upside down.

when the attacks occurred and his aides informed him during the reading he did nothing. he sat and waited for the book to be finished by the students. Giving little physical notice of what he had just heard.

What person do you know that did that?

I remember exactly where I was when I learned about the attacks.

I was just waking up to go to my Social Psychology class. My TV alarm came on as it always does the precursor show to Good Day L.A. was on TV. showing footage of a burning building with it's twin swaying in the beautiful New York skyline.

I wondered what movie they were talking about for a moment. until I realized that really happened. I was shocked. Appalled even. I thought about drunk pilots and wondered how they managed to crash it into one of the tallest buildings in the world. it was only by the time the second one hit that I suspected something fishy.

we all know what happened. The first building collapsed and shortly after the 2nd one. A great many people, innocent people, were killed that day. because why? because we gave Osama AK-47s and allowed him to build up an army?

no.

that's not WHY it happened. it's something stupid our government did a long time ago during the cold war. but that is not why our country was terrorized.

Then there's the mysterious "rocket" that hit the pentagon and united 93 that went down before reaching it's target.

but you didn't hear much about them. "lets Roll" that's about all I remember from that.

and here it is 6 years later. the hi-jackers held up the planes with box cutters. Box cutters? granted a razor sharp blade but not incredibly effective unless slashed at the wrist, neck, head/face. I question why no one took it upon themselves to get up and kick the hi-jackers to the curb? how did they get through security then with box cutters? and why does it seem like no one did anything?

I suppose they killed the pilots, and flew the planes themselves. and yes who would fly them after that. the passengers may never have even known their final destination. but I still wonder how could someone sit around idly while their life is about to be stripped from them? a lazy america I guess. always thinking someone else is paid to take care of this so I'll just sit by and wait. as a result a great many more people were killed. People whose only mistake that day was going to work.

I feel sorry for the families. do not get me wrong. there is no excuse for attacking innocent people.

but that in itself is the problem. they believed then and believe to this day that the average american plays a vital role in what our government does, in what our military does. but the truth is the average american is totally ignorant to what's going on outside their bubble. they go to work, drop the kids off at school, make the lunches make the dinner, when there's an election coming up they tune in to the mud slinging and decide accordingly to their moral values what the lesser of 2 evils is.

2? bi-partisan government. Why do we have other political parties? what's the use. People say they're voting green, or some other party and I see them get laughed at and asked if they know that they are throwing their vote away. It's sad really. but our government is chosen in a very naive way. we vote for a candidate. each state has basically a group of people whose vote counts. oh yes sure your vote counts but it goes to a smaller number. "the electoral college." you vote for your candidate and your vote gets added in with a bunch of others to decide which candidate gets your state's vote. California is almost ALWAYS democrat. but there are still 50 other states and each state has some made up number assigned to it that is supposed to be decided by the census, how many people live in that state.

so we have a complex popularity vote to decide our commander in chief. knowing what we know: that most Americans are ignorant, even stupid the sad truth is there are a lot of people in our country with sub-par educations. and our president reflects that.

and our president reflects us as a whole. other countries make fun of him, as do we. but no one does anything about it. we all know he's an idiot, but it's not ALL his fault he does have a cabinet full of more competent people to explain things to him.

and yet there he sat. blank. "curious George." as a result we attacked Iraq. they put the fear in the populous with "weapons of mass destruction." oh so they have planes?

yes well most countries have planes.

oh you mean they have new-clear (nuke you lar?) whatever the fuck that is, bombs. we never found any. maybe the military didn't look hard enough. or maybe we have just become an oppressive country. or maybe we have been since the time of the cold war. not maybe. we have been. the average american doesn't realize that.

the average american doesn't know that their 2nd amendment rights have basically been revoked. the average american has no idea what is going on in this country.

but here's something we do know. we were attacked, whether provoked or not matters very little.

This terrorism has and will affect our country for years and years to come. we cannot even hypothesize what effect this will have on our children. the world they are growing up in is nothing like that of our parents.

Our generation gets to ask the question: Where were you when you found out about the september 11th attacks.

where as the previous generation asks: where were you during the first moon walk?

it just says something about the way the world is turning. and I'm afraid it's mostly our own fault for electing the idocracy.
