Cal Poly SLO or UCSC?

Let's call UC Santa Cruz Tobias.  Tobias was my love at first sight.  Not only was he drop-dead gorgeous, something about him was just... inspiring.  Something awoke within my mind and soul whenever I was around him-it was almost as if I belonged there, with Tobias, unequivocally.  He seemed to fit me like a good pair of size 7.5 Steve Maddens, and ( Read more... )

it sucks having to choose between atmosphere or academics. i know a lot of people who are struggling with that issue. my two cents? college is what you make it. even if you do go to cal poly (the disgusting party school) you don't have to partake in the alcohol/drugs. there are probably a lot of clean kids like you who are going to cal poly. and while every other jerkoff is drinking himself into oblivion, you straight-edge kids will bond over karaoke and pizza and other non-alcoholic activities and still have a great time, even if the campus looks a little like irvington.

of course, if you're leaning towards ucsc, you can always do your undergrad there and then go to graduate school for journalism. easy peasy lemon squeezy =)

I guess it is a fairly common dilemma.. My optometrist said today that he remembers choosing between atmosphere and academics. He chose atmosphere, and said it was well worth it.
And you're right. College is what you make it. Not to mention there's thousands of people in college. ..and cute guys EVERYWHERE at Cal Poly... not that it should matter. haha

Judging from the longer paragraph about Tobias (CUTE NAME BTW), it seems like you're really in love with him. He's not a liar, it was just a mistake. A "political" stupid mistake, but just a mistake nonetheless. He wasn't trying to lure you in and that's not why you fell in love with him, correct ( ... )

Thanks, Lauren. Sometimes I need to be reminded that.

honestly, go to UCSC

I fell in love with berkeley thinking I was going to major in one thing, I've changed my mind 3 times so far. I have very few friends who stuck to their majors. Undergrad doesnt matter for a lot if you are going to grad school. Here is what I have seen happen
1) sonali started as pre-med, wanted to be a doctor her whole life, is now business
2) priyam started as bio, is now forrestery or environmental science or something equally hippie-ish
3) I think shreya might still be business

go for the school, things change. Literature can be fun too, you write on your own, its a lot of reading, but it will give you an excellent base for journalism, especially national geographic likes to cater to above average people

Three times? No kidding! What are you doing now as of the present?
Thanks for the input. I shall consider away..! To be honest, I'd be more excited to go to Santa Cruz. But a little worried because they have really obscure majors if I did want to change. Like.. Jazz. Or their five different types of Latin American Studies. haha. But then again, Cal Poly makes a big fat ordeal of changing majors. You would be Cal Poly's worst nightmare, I think. :P
