I made it to Denver....alive

Jul 12, 2009 19:35

So it has been an interesting past 3 days.  I left from Cali on my way to Denver on Friday afternoon.  Everything was going pretty well.  Only had to fight a little bit of traffic on the way out of the OC.  I get to Baker and stop for gas.  As I was leaving Baker, I got about 11 miles out and my bike dies.  I pull over to the side of the road and try to figure out what the hell was going on.  after about an hour I text my sister in Vegas that I am stranded on the side of the road.  it was about 6pm or so.  I had half a bottle of water and no food.  My family in Vegas was about to go out to dinner for Amandas birthday.  I figured I would just kick it for a bit and just have a tow truck pick me up.  Well it was either $210 for the truck to tow me BACK to Baker or $650 to get towed into Vegas.  After saying fuck that, I remembered that Amanda has a horse trailer and figured I could throw the bike into the back of it.  Finally got a plan in motion and just had to wait for my family to get there.  Sun finally went down, I had finished my water and stopped sweating(in a bad way) for about 20 minutes.  I was sitting on the side of the road and got bit or pinched by some fucking bug.  After getting to the point where I was mentally fried and about to jump into traffic someone stopped to check on me.  It was about 11pm when this happened.  4 CHP crusiers had passed me and about 6 tow trucks and not a single person stopped.my family gets out there at about 11:30pm with water and food.  Amanda gets there with the trailer about 12:15 and we are on the road back to Vegas at about 1am.

Morale of friday, get the motorcycle towing on my AAA membership NAO!!!

I get a few hours of sleep and Amanda and I get the bike to the Harley dealership in Henderson.  We get there as they open at 9am.  Check the bike in and wait.....and wait......and wait.....1:30pm gets there and they finally tell me that the battery was so dead that the alternator couldnt keep the bike running cause it couldnt complete the circuit.  $260 later, bike is fixed.  I get back to my moms house and decided that I was going to leave that afternoon instead of the morning.  Load up the bike and hit the road.  Getting out of Nevada was amazing.  As I was going up the 15 to the border, I KNEW when I crossed the state line.  It was like a veil of evil was lifted.  And all the dirt turned red and there was a Cracker Barrel just across stateline.  The air started to cool and the ride through the canyon was beautiful.  I kept chugging away and finally got into Utah.  I knew when I got there cause there was dead deer all over the road and the words Zion or Jesus was on every billboard that I saw.  Bunch of fucking kooks out there man.

I Had decided that I was going to stop in Green River Utah for the night but I knew I was going to lose daylight as soon I filled up for gas.  I had THOUGHT that it was all straight freeway.  Turns out it was 80 miles of deer country in the dark with lightning cracking all around and no moon.  I now know what TRUE terror is.  It is riding at 75 MPH in the dark down 6% downgrades in deer country on a wet road with a big rig riding our ass that you can smell their breaks burning.  Made it to Green river and had white knuckles for the rest of the night.

Left this morning at at 8am and got on the road.  Was making some great time unk I hit Frisco I stopped for gas and found out that there was a motorhome that was on fire that had shut down the freeway.  Had to blow an hour waiting and then decided I would rough the freeway.  Bad Choice.  I sat on the side for a bit and then just started riding the shoulder to make sure my engine didnt explode.  After I got past the burnt motorhome traffic was pretty open.  I kept thinking to myself that I was lucky, I had not hit ANY RAIN.  It always seemed like I was either ahead of it or JUST missed it.  It wasnt until I got 16 miles out of Denver that I finally hit rain.  But even that wasnt real rain.  The road was just wet so my legs got wet.  I hit Denver and I was dry again.

And now I am here.  I am about to sit down to dinner with some bikers and get plowed.  I am sure I will have video to post later if not a LJ update.  Wish me luck, about to show these Denver bikers how we Cali folk get down.
