GAME NA!
Prologue: Monday, i lose my cellphone on the set of the soap i am doing. damn. and to think, i super love my Treo. and not even the charm and beauty (not to mention the extra attention i received) of Sam Milby was enough to counter the painstaking task of rebuilding my techie life from scratch. oh well. fuck niya, kung sino man siyang nagnakaw. magiging mahirap siya forever. on the same day, i get a call from the people from Game Ka Na Ba? asking if i was available to play the next day, at 7 pm. apparently, it was a celebrity past winners edition, and since i once won the top prize for charity (yes, wala akong nakuha kundi prayers and congratulations) pwedeng pwede sumali di ba! Heck, in a fit of depression, everything after that loss seemed like a good thing.
Tuesday, 7 pm. taping commences, and the cast of characters are: MJ Felipe (ETK reporter), Vice Ganda (Karaoke Bar host), TJ Trinidad (Matinee Idol), Meryl Soriano (Actor), Jeffrey Hidalgo (Singer), Dang (Comedienne), Carlo Maceda (Sexy Actor), J.E. Sison (Sexy Actor), Dimples Romana (Actor) and moi. i won't go into detail, just that i emerged the winner (hahahahaha!) and it was time for the million peso round.
the reformatted version of GKNB's million peso round is much easier than the "find-the-answer-in-the-aquarium" format was. for those unfamiliar with how it goes, there are 8 possible categories to which 6 letters are presented -- 3 chosen by them, and 3 that you choose yourself. from the 6 letters, they randomly select one of the 8 categories to which your answer should correspond to the first letter of the said category. for example:
the category is: Madonna Songs
and the letters are: B-M-W-T-E-C
possible answers are:
B = Bedtime Story
M= Material Girl
W= What It Feels Like For A Girl
T= Take A Bow
E= Express Yourself
C= Candy Perfumed Girl
all within 60 seconds.
you get the million if you successfully answer all within the time limit. also, a special prize is given if one your correct answers falls into one chosen letter of the six.
my category was: Female Flower Names, to which the given letters were C-L-E, and my choice letters were M-P-S. kakainis nga kasi i missed out 2 (wasn't able to get S and E, to which the possible answers were Edelweiss or Erica [i never new Erica was a flower; then again you learn something new everyday], and S for Sage and Saffron [you tend to think of these two as spices first before flowers]). KAKAINIS! but i did get to win a PSP with speakers and a new 2G iPod Nano :) not bad for day one :)
i retained top spot for 2 more days, and could not forgive myself for not getting the category of Laptop Computer Manufacturers (ang naisip ko lang sa letter O ay Omron, which turned out only to manufacture calculators and cash registers, and letter M, to which i answered a Macintosh, na hindi nila tinanggap kasi ang manufacturing name daw ay Apple. hay). by the way, the possible answer for O was Olivetti, na ikinagulat ko din kasi i thought they only made typewriters. Day 3's category was Grammy Winners for New Artist since 1960, to which super kulelat ako (i only got 2; oo Marco Henson & Ricky Villabona, i know you read this and i know you won't forgive me!!!) cause i figured, hell, since most of these winners were once new anyway, they probably won for that category as well. i did not get: P (i answered Portishead, to which Paula Cole was a possible answer), M (i answered Michael Jackson, to which an easy Mariah Carey would have sufficed), D (i answered Donny Hathaway, na masyadong sosyal probably, pero i could't have answered Debbie Boone kasi hindi ako familiar sa discography niya) and one other letter i already forgot. i was only able to get A=Alicia Keys and T=Toni Braxton. sigh.
all in all, i got 150k (minus 30k for tax purposes; chaka talaga ng tax) and that gadget showcase nga. not bad considering i only needed enough extra bucks to get me a new cellphone.
i swear i never had a more literal example of God giving you back what you need ten-fold.
