It appears that April finally ended a week ago Friday. The cold rains have ended and we seem to me making a mad dash to cram all of the pleasantness that May is into the week that is left before June strikes.
We celebrated the end of April by taking a trip to the shore a couple of weekends ago, beating the summer crowds by a week. We ended up with a wet day on Friday, but that merely meant we could watch Prince Caspian at its first showing on the Boardwalk. Saturday, after the gray that was Friday, broke gloriously clear. Of course, you have to be awake at 5:30 to realize that properly…and so that you can run out the door and hit the boards and beach in pursuit of pictures. And see the limo from a local prom dropping its cargo off at the hotel across the street.
After years of being farther south, I was surprised that the sun came up straight off the end of the boardwalk on the northern end of Ocean City.
Wonderland is the largest of the amusement piers in OC. It has a castle kind of motif that hides the rides inside and out back.
The Music Pier is the focal point of the Boardwalk, but closer to the north end than to the midpoint of its 2.5 mile length.
Saturday afternoon was warm enough to gather our chairs and umbrella and hit the beach. Even though I had to go buy a pair of shorts in order to do so. The wind flipped our umbrella inside out a few times before we gave up on that and simply allowed the wind and sun to wash over us.
As we sat, we noticed a group (from among the many groups of young nubile bodies swarming all about us) of kids trying to take a picture of themselves jumping in the surf. After a few minutes we realized that they were deaf, which I imagine had to make their timing difficult. Naturally I had to try to catch them and match their timing. As long as someone was there giving direction, it took a few minutes to catch the right shot.
