Reverse Mini-Big Bang 2013 Rules

May 02, 2013 21:40

This post and the schedule is shamelessly based on other Big Bang communities. Because this is new to me, if there's something you want to suggest or if you want to change the schedule, just let me know. This post is also for all sorts of questions and suggestions. Go ahead!

Schedule:
June 1st: Artist/mixer sign-ups open
June 15th: Artist/mixer sign-ups close

July 1st: Artist/mixer check-in (mandatory)
July 1st: Writer/pinch-hitter sign-ups open

July 15th: Art/mixes due
July 15th: Writer sign-ups close
July 20th: Claiming

August 15th: Writer check-in (mandatory)
August 15th: Pinch-hitter sign-ups close
August 31st: All fic, art and mixes are due

September 7th: Posting begins

For artists and mixers:
  • The goal is to create at least one piece of art or a fanmix consisting of at least 5 songs, which will then receive at least a 3,000 word fic for it. Obviously, because there are so few artists/mixers in the fandom as opposed to writers, the artists/mixers are encouraged to create more than one piece. This is not obligatory by any means, though.
  • The pictures have to feature at least one character from the TGWTG universe. The setting can be AU, het, gen, slash, anything, with any rating. Crossovers are okay, as long as the focus is on the TGWTG verse characters and the artist provides an explanation/information of the other fandom characters. Please also remember that crossovers might limit the number of authors who can work with your art.
  • Fanmixes should have at least 5 songs and be based on a character, pairing, or a general theme, e.g. heartbreak, the course of a relationship, how other characters view someone, and so on. Cover art is nice, but not obligatory.
  • You cannot use art/mix that has already been posted elsewhere. (Using old, unposted drafts or sketches is fine, though!)
  • The art can be a (digital) drawing, painting or animation. It can be black-and-white or colour, however you want -- as long as it looks finished quality. Art should be submitted in .jpeg, .png or .gif format.
  • (If someone is inspired, making a fanvid is also allowed! Fanvids should be at least 30 seconds.)
  • The art doesn't have to be action-packed and/or feature a dozen characters. If you can imagine a "before" and an "after" to the moment you depict, chances are a writer will be able to imagine it, too -- even if they don't imagine the same story you do.
  • Authors will claim the art/mix based on your anonymous description of it, and the art/mix will be sent to them after claiming. The author should respect your definitions, e.g. if you describe your work as "gen". (Think of it as prompting and/or story wishlist -- you give the guidelines.)
  • Artist sign-ups will open on June 1 and close on June 15th. The mandatory check-in for art/mixes is on July 1st, and all art and mixes are due on July 15th. You can make changes or give finishing touches to your art/mix after that; the deadline for all fic and art/mixes is on August 31, and the posting will start on September 7th. You are allowed to talk to your assigned writer and discuss the story -- it's up to you how much collaboration there will be.
  • You can drop out any time before July 15th, and everything is cool.
For writers:
  • The goal is to write at least a 3,000 word story based on a picture/fanmix you claim. You'll claim the art/mix based on anonymous description of it, and the work will then be sent to you.
  • You can claim multiple works, but please note that the minimum word count is still 3,000 per art/mix.
  • Your work has to be related to the art/mix and you cannot use a fic already posted elsewhere. (Using old, unposted ideas or drafts is fine, though!)
  • The fic can be AU, gen, het, slash, as long as it relates to the art/mix. You can include characters who do not appear in the art/mix, but the focus should be on the characters in the art/mix. You should respect the artist's/mixer's guidelines, but you'll be allowed to talk to them and pitch your story ideas to them -- it's up to you how much collaboration there'll be.
  • Author sign-ups will open on July 1st and close on July 15th. The mandatory check-in for writers is on August 15th, and the deadline for your fic is on August 31st. The posting will start on September 7th. You can give your fic the finishing touches during this period.
  • If you wish to drop out after claiming the art/mix, you can do so before August 15th, and everything is cool. If you're the only one to claim the art/mix, it will then be sent to pinch-hitters.
  • You can also sign-up only as a Knight In Shining Armor i.e. a pinch-hitter. (Or double as an author and a Knight.) You would only be sent an assignment if an author drops out and they are the only one to write a story for an art/mix -- if there are multiple claims, a pinch-hitter won't be needed.
