I'm a 22yr old trans guy from Switzerland. Around the end of August/early September, I intend on travelling to either London, Edinburgh or Glasgow for about 5 days. I really want to keep accomodation costs down (so I can spend more on other stuff lol) so I was thinking of staying at a hostel or try out couch surfing.
The thing is, even after 15 months of being on T and being post top surgery, I do not pass 100%, also, I haven't gotten my name changed (not possible at this time), so, at a hostel, I would have to make my reservation with my girly name but with a request for getting a "male" bed at a mixed dorm which would force me to disclose.
I'd like to know if anyone could recommend me a trans friendly, clean, close to city centre hostel with some privacy in the shower area in any of the said cities.
How about couch surfing? Is it recommendable at all for someone travelling alone who hasn't done this kind of thing ever?
At this time I haven't decided on where to go, it really depends on where I'd be still able to get a flight a week from now and where I find a nice place to stay.
Any general advice? Must sees? I've been to Edinburgh twice and loved it (especially the traditional food and the ghost tours... yes, I'm weird)
I've never been to Glasgow and just thought I could go there because, well, I like Scottland, yet I want to see city other than Edinburgh. However, I don't actually know what's there to do o_O
London seems interesting because of the people and the city itself, also I could get a super cheap flight there xD
So, since I'd be travelling alone I'd prefer staying at a place where I could make some friends. I'm kind of awkward at going to bars or something and talking to people, so I'd prefer the social space to come to me, not the other way around (i.e. staying somewhere with other people, already knowing someone where I go).
To the dates: I can't guarantee for anything, but I was thinking about something between August 25th and 27th to Sept. 1st.
Right now I tend to like the option of staying in London most but this basically changes daily...
Anyone available for a drink or as a tour guide? :3
EDIT: Is it illegal in the UK to use a first name that's not on your passport? Can I get denied my booked bed in a hostel because I used my preferred name and gender in an online booking form?
