Personally I've never been part of (and wouldn't want to be part of) a society that ran single-sex events.
Admittedly the events may have a slight gender-stereotype bias (Soooo football or ballet?) but whether you want to follow the stereotypes is really personal choice.
I'd like to think that if we had a fair share of transmen in our ranks we wouldn't do anything to specifically disinterest them but in the end it all comes down to personal choice.
Also I would shy away from any outings to specified female only spaces to avoid the sorts of negative reactions which may occur as a result of other people's prejudices. I'm not shying away from my rights as a woman but I should imagine a support group would have members involved unable to handle that kind of pressure, so we'd have to think about them too.
I certainly wouldn't want to exclude anyone from even taking part in the group. Infact if we get a few transmen we may need someone on board to act as something of a mentor (hint hint)
So far 'involved' is myself and possibly Emma. I think that gives us a wide range of experience, I'm early transition and bi, she's fulltime and straight. I am TRYING to put up with the NHS where she went private.
I hope Emma does want to help out, her current state of support in this is "Maybe", And if we start small we'll really need a place to host it.... and I still live with my parents.
As for what sort of things wil be involved the point of this post is to find out what people WANT to be involved so we can inject some Democracy.
...football. Definately football. I see you're in Sheffield, and that's my "home team" as it were... ;) Just kidding. I am a Blades fan, but I get what you mean with the examples, yeah - and it all works better without trying to stereotype people - isn't that part of what we went to get away from?
I can understand about staying away from certain places - no sense going somewhere you know might well get trouble, when trying to relax.
I'm very much pre transition, and bi. Sadly I also have a living room the size of a broomcloset, so I can't offer assistance there. But this sounds both useful and fun, and if I can lend a hand then sure.
Oh, I do want to help, but I'm just not sure in what capacity I'd be useful, seeing as how I'm about as organised as a not very organised thing that can't even organise a suitable simile!
