i can't change my name yet for various reasons, but i do need to get a job this summer. i'm ftm and there's no way i want to end up having to be known as 'female' in whatever job i get, so i'm a bit confused as to what to do about working and coming out and all that.
i'm under the impression you can write whatever forename you want on your CV providing you're not trying to defraud anyone, so i'm not too worried about the actual applying for jobs bit. i'm more worried about if i do actually get a job - at what point am i going to have to tell them i'm trans? passing isn't an issue for me at all. so, could i, in theory, go through the entire interview process as a guy and then when it comes to legal details/NI numbers and all that, can i just say 'by the way, this is my legal name, i'm transgendered...' blah blah blah? i've never actually had a job before so i'm not really sure how it all works, but i don't want to go in totally unprepared... so yeah.
has anyone done anything like this before successfully? i don't really want to out myself too early on in case it affects my chances of actually getting a job... but at the same time i dont want to end up having started a job somewhere where my manager or whatever is totally useless about the whole thing. hmm. so yeah, any advice on this whole situation would be lovely.
oh, and um, while i'm talking about jobs, has anyone had any particularly good (or bad) experiences with particular employers? i don't want to apply somewhere that's totally transphobic & crap. thanks.
