Had a bit of amusement on Wednesday night I must share, my seven minutes of television fame!
My friend and many-years-ago roommate J has a cable-access TV show that he has done in one form or another for about 12 years now; the current incarnation is called "Clown Time", airing on Sunday night/Monday morning from midnight to 1:30am. It's a totally useless and meaningless live call-in show; as J likes to say frequently, the callers are there to entertain him; he is not there to entertain the callers. They call, talk about whatever they'd like or scream at him; he screams back or chats a bit; and that's pretty much the show. I love it!
J did a live-in-person taping of a Clown Time show at the Vortex, just for his viewers; he took calls via a wireless old-fashioned telephone that he circulated through the live audience. Equally meaningless, but a lot of fun! He lined up a few performers; a stand-up comedienne did an amusing routine on the real meanings behind those damned employment want-ads; the Austin Rocky Horror cast showed up in costume and did an a capella "Sweet Transvestite", very awful; and I performed for a few tunes near the beginning of the show. Great fun; I consider that I have done a bit toward renewing my freak credentials.
