Mother's Cafe burned yesterday. The garden, where I've been sitting and playing harp three days a week for nine years, is totally destroyed. At least the kitchen and the office, with all the business records, made it through okay, so it isn't a total loss. Many of the employees, current and former, have shown up to poke through the ruin; we're all shocked. Two of the three owners were there yesterday at the site, and I am heartened that they are firmly set on rebuilding. And, with SXSW coming up, they're receiving lots of inquiries from out-of-towners about the restaurant. So they'll be up and running with a basic menu, probably some fixed plates available. They want to have outdoor seating under tents in the parking lot. So Mother's isn't dead--go on out and support this wonderful place that's been providing us with fine vegetarian food since 1980! It isn't open just yet, but perhaps sooner than we think. Watch this space for details...I'll post what I know.
