so, about two weeks ago, i gut a bug up my ass to start doing some exercise. dunno where the motivation came from, but it was there.

last year i tried running. i'd be in huge amounts of pain, and ended up giving up after two weeks. earlier this year i tried doing some aerobics & lightweight stuff at home. it wasn't particularly effective, and i was annoyed enough by it that i quit after a week.

this time around, i had the urge to swim. i thought i'd try it 3 times a week to see how it went, and got a month membership at the rose bowl aquatic center.

the first day i went, i thought i was going to die. gasping for breath, dizzy, all of that stuff. i was worried about it when i went back after a days rest, but i managed to slow myself way down (which is harder than it seems, because some parts of swimming are just a whole lot easier when you're moving through the water faster) and it felt great. really great. like i couldn't wait to go get in the water again. this week, instead of 3 times, i went every single weekday. i'm a little bit tired and fatigued right now, but i've doubled my total workout distance from that first day, and doubled the longest stretch i've swum, and it still feels good.

i'm looking forward to next week too.

now, i just need to find a way to get myself through those days or weeks where i'm *not* champing at the bit to go, because i know they're coming...
