Happy Thanksgiving!

Nov 27, 2013 11:11

This year, the lunar Jewish calendar has been in an rare alignment with the solar calendar, such that all of the Jewish holidays have been much earlier than usual.

As a result, the first day of Chanukah falls on Thanksgiving this year.

In addition to potato pancakes (latkes), a traditional Chanukah dish is jelly doughnuts.  This is because they are fried in oil, and one of the miracles of Chanukah involves oil.

However, in an effort to celebrate both holidays within one dish, this year I'm going to try out some turkey doughnuts! ;-)
