Lasik

So I went for an eye exam on the 15th to see if I qualified for lasik surgery. They made me watch this video that kept freezing, so I had no idea how they did the procedure...which didn't help my uneasiness of the whole idea of lasers going in my eye. Then a guy came in and proceeded to tell me that there were two different types of lasik surgery: traditional and custom. I asked him what the difference was and he said that the traditional one fixes your prescription, and the custom allows you to see a little bit better. He said that the custom lasik knows that it's your right eye and if your eye moves slightly, it adjusts to it, whereas the traditional doesn't have that much data. He said that the custom also allows you to see clearer during the night. Of course the custom one is more expensive...$749 per eye for the traditional and $1699 per eye for the custom. Anyway, he said that I will be able to know which one I needed after the exam.

The first test was to see if I had any problems with my eye. The guy told me to blink and open my eyes really wide. Then he told me to hold out my hand and close it except for the pointer finger. He told me to twirl my finger every time I blink and open my eyes. I should have asked him what my finger had to do with my eye, but I didn't. Anyway, he said that I had a lot of abrasion in my eyes. I asked him what that meant and he said that there are other things than my prescription that's causing me not to see as well as I should. After series of tests he said that my corneas were too thin, so I had to go with custom.

After the exam I told my mom and cousin (he drove us there) to come in and the guy told them what was going on. We decided to go with custom and proceeded with all the paperwork and stuff. At the end my mom asked if there were any discounts. He said that if I had the surgery this month then $250 will be taken off. Then he said that if anyone in my family owned a bussiness then it's another 15% off. Then on top of that there's no interest until 2008 and it's lifetime guaranteed. Pretty good deal. So, I made an appointment for the 19th at 3:15.

The 19th came around and I got increasingly nervous about the procedure. They called me in and and told me to wait in these chairs. I finally got called into a room and the guy prepped me for surgery. He told me to put on a hair net and these things to cover my shoes. He gave me protective glasses and these goggle lookin thing to wear every time I go to sleep for two weeks. He gave me two eyedrops to use after the surgery and then he left the room. After some time the doctor came in and plugged my tear ducts. He put in numbing eyedrops and left. Then the surgeon came in and said that he needed to take a picture of my left eye again. He said that if my cornea was too thin that I had to do this other surgery called PK. He left and I sat there waiting for what seemed like two hours. Nearly everyone had gone before me and finally this guy took a pic of my left eye. Then I went into the final prep room and more eye numbing drops were put in and I finally got into the surgery room.

'Twas really cold in there and to make matters worse I was really nervous, so I was visibly shaking a lot. I waved to my mom while I was waiting for the surgeon to come in. The computer dude told me that the whole procedure will be 24 seconds. The surgeon comes in and he measured my eye and it turned out that I didn't need to do the PK surgery. He put more numbing stuff in and talked me through the whole procedure. I was actually blind for a couple of seconds and all I saw throughout the procedure was a red light blinking. When I got up everything was foggy. I put on my protective glasses and it was like close to 6 when I got out.

My post-op appointment was at 7:30 in the morning on the 20th. They said I had almost perfect vision...20/25. The doctor said that it'll get better and better as the days go on. Now I have to put in three different kinds of eye drops four times a day for five days. I have to put in these drops for dry eyes for a month..maybe even two if they get really dry. I have to wear the goggle thingy every time I sleep for two weeks. I can't rub my eyes for at least six weeks. It's been two days after the surgery and I can see so much better. =)

In other news, I got straight A's for fall semester! Also, I'll be handing out presents starting on x-mas day. Hopefully you guys will be home and actually like the presents. I must go and rest my eyes now. Sorry for the long update.
