There are places I could discuss "Mad Men" but not places where I could spin it around back to Man From U.N.C.L.E. Obviously Don Draper is a Napoleon-type. I don't know if there is a Waverly really, and certainly it exists too early in the 60s (so far) for an Illya. The Mad Women can seem like U.N.C.L.E. support staff or innocents or even villains.
Wives though? Agents in U.N.C.L.E. didn't have such. Waverly seemed to, but we never met his other half. Did we ever wonder about her?
But I've been wondering about Betty, Don's wife. I don't like her, no one likes her, but is she a villain? In the final episode of this season, we almost cheer Don on when he calls her a whore. But Don is a philanderer, not too, but more so. I feel as if she is written poorly or if the actress that plays her (January Jones) cannot get a handle on her. She is not sympathetic by any means, but shouldn't she be somewhat? Why should Don be? It took me a long time to cozy up to "Mad Men." I remain perplexed about Betty, Mrs. Don. I feel we should care about her but we don't. I don't. Somehow I think this is wrong-headed. Shouldn't there be something about t this gorgeous, icy, suburban wife & mother that we can care about?
It has bothered me since watching this last episode, that I think she's so awful.
