Based on the song "Just Breathe" by Anna Nalick
2 AM and he calls me 'cause I'm still awake,
The voice on the other end sighed, the sound of his hair ruffling as his hand ran through it
"Can you help me unravel my latest mistake? I don't love her. Winter just wasn't my season"
Yeah we walk through the doors, so accusing their eyes
Like they have any right at all to criticize,
Her white dress shone like the light of heaven looking down at him, his head hanging from his neck like it was broken. He couldn't look at her, wouldn't look at her, and he wouldn't look at them either. Not when he hoped to never see them again.
Hypocrites. You're all here for the very same reason
"I don't want to marry you. I was never in love with you." Their faces fell in disapproval, but were they really that surprised? "I'm sorry."
'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
"Sometimes I wish I could change-" his voice cracking out as he pressed the hot mug to his head, " wish I could chose who I fell in love with."
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button, boy.
"I've spent all my life looking for someone... to just love me." His toes curled and his fingers curled into his long black hair, his palms pressing harder into his cheek bones, trying to break them. "I want to find him... sometime..."
So cradle your head in your hands
And breathe... just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe
May he turned 21 on the base at Fort Bliss
"I want you to come out with me today," she said, holding the dirty sleeve of his shirt, "just for lunch or something"
"Just a day" he said down to the flask in his fist, "Ain't been sober, since maybe October of last year."
The people at the diner knew who he was, but they didn't look too long.
Here in town you can tell he's been down for a while,
But, my God, it's so beautiful when the boy smiles,
"I want to introduce you to my friend," she whispered into her food. "He has been sad lately.. kind of... well, kind of like you."
"Just like me?" he asked, a cloud forming behind his dark brown eyes I haven't seen in a while.
"Um-hum... he is just like you"
Wanna hold him. Maybe I'll just sing about it.
"Yunho, this is Jaejoong," when their hands touch she got a chill. Something was right.
Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table.
No one can find the rewind button, boys,
"I always knew I was different, I like other things. Other people." He twirled a lock of pure black hair between his thin fingers.
He watched him, so intense, so immersed in the small action. "I know what you mean."
"You do?"
So cradle your head in your hands,
And breathe... just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe
"You are no son to us..."
The car was going so fast, but he couldn't stop. The tires would give out, throw the car. Maybe it would kill him... But, after his heart was taken, what does he have to live for?
When it stops, the tires scream, blackening the road. "You knew I would be here?"
"I know this place is special to you," the boy said, detaching himself from the wall of the diner and placing his hand on the smoldering car, "special to both of us."
There's a light at each end of this tunnel,
"I love you"
"You can't love me, you don't know me!"
You shout 'cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out
"I love you"
"Stop it, ...please stop it..."
And these mistakes you've made, you'll just make them again
"You know you fixed me, my everything," he placed a hand over the other's fabric covered heart. "I want to fix you, too."
If you only try turning around.
The footsteps are loud, but his voice still drifting in the air is louder.
"I love you," he repeated, like a broken record.
"Stop saying that"
"Say it back to me and I will"
2 AM and I'm still awake, writing a song
Her fingers are fast with the pen scratching like a shriek. Her heart is slowly loosening, she knows it's not her fight anymore.
If I get it all down on paper, it's no longer inside of me,
Threatening the life it belongs to
"So how are you two doing?"
"Fine I guess, he is an idiot though"
Her laugh was like the harp of a fallen angel, looking deep into his heart and picking away the hardness and resentment of the sentence.
"I knew you two would get along."
And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd
Cause these words are my diary, screaming out loud
And I know that you'll use them, however you want to
"Tell him"
"No"
"He loves you"
"Hum"
"He does"
"... I know"
But you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button now
Sing it if you understand.
"Hey, Yunho"
"Oh, Jaejoong. Shouldn't you be in bed? You looked really sick last time we met-"
"I love you"
"Ah... what?"
"I don't like saying it so don't make me say it again"
"Jaejoong... I love you, too"
The warm cloth of his shoulder pressed against his face, soaking the tears that were hiding under his eyelids. Without realizing it, he nuzzled into the soft fabric, breathing like it was the last breath he could take.
and breathe, just breathe
woah breathe, just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe,
"I love you" a whisper smaller than the snow falling on their heads
Oh breathe,
"I love you, too" louder, but quieter
just breathe.
