Daylight Saving Score Sheet

Mar 11, 2007 22:21

As somebody with a great interest in timepieces, I was naturally curious to see which of my clocks might get the time right today, the first day of the new, early Daylight Saving Time. I've eliminated from the list anything that I didn't think stood a chance because it must normally be set manually.

Verizon cell phone: yep.
TiVo Series 3: yep.
Radio-controlled clock in bathroom: yep.
Radio-controlled clock in bedroom: nope, but apparently due to poor signal reception.
WinXP Pro SP2 laptop: yep.
WinXP Home SP1 desktop: nope. It would appear Microsoft never issued a patch for SP1. Maybe it's time to try SP2 on there.
Fedora Core 4 machine at work: yep, thanks to the ever-intrepid Vicki.
Home alarm system: nope. I tried having it call HQ for a test, but that wasn't enough, either.

I have to admire the ability of the WWVB system to send DST notifications at times not anticipated when the clocks were built or the data protocol was specified. There's no chance for an in-the-field patch, but none was needed!
