The Return of Family Guy

Yea, and though there was a dark period of three years during which there was but one new Family Guy, it has returned, and it is freakin' sweet. I watched the debut of American Dad first, and it was marginally better than the pilot had been. I set my expectations low, and they were met. That wasn't enough to get big laughter out of me, but it was something.

The newest Family Guy had me almost instantaneously. Peter started out explaining that the show had been canceled due to scheduling difficulties with other "great" shows. Peter then started a litany of almost thirty Fox series that came and went in the time Family Guy was off the air. I supposed if all those shows go down the tubes we might have a shot. The Bed, Bath, and Beyond joke was excellent, though I'm compelled to complain about the improperly rendered blivet.

I'm glad MacFarlane's back doing what made everyone love him. Now if they could just jettison that other project so he could devote himself to it full time! The strain is obvious when one of Steve's friends is built like Chris Griffin and sounds like Chris Griffin. I also hope they kick up the writing for Francine. Thus far, she's been even more of a one-note character than the rest of the cast.
