Filter-Finding Phoning: Another Complicated Oil Change

Feb 29, 2004 23:16

Yes, it's another post about getting an oil change, and only three months to the day after the last one! Last Saturday, I visited one of the three Henrietta locations of the same lube chain as the Murrysville, Pennsylvania shop in the last story. When I pulled in, I was gravely informed that they'd run out of the oil filter model that fits every model of Subaru. D'oh! They called the other two locations, but nobody had them in stock. From a sheer business perspective, this was very foolish of them. I'd stopped in on a whim after an afternoon with the quartet. I hadn't gone online for a printable coupon. I hadn't gone home first to pick up a coupon that had been mailed to me. When I went back today, I had a money-saving coupon that had been sent by the Murrysville location: a three-dollar hit to their bottom line.

This morning, I confirmed on the web that all three locations had Sunday hours. That established, it still seemed wise to see if they had filters in stock. Tuesday's shipment might not have had enough to last to Sunday. They seemed very confused that someone would call and ask this sort of question. The two stores I asked both had them in stock. "Why wouldn't we?" was the question I'm sure they wanted to ask me.
