Yet Another Archos Connectivity Failure

Jan 13, 2004 01:03

I've been hoping for some time to make use of the digital audio output on the back of my DVD player and the digital audio input on my Archos jukebox. I hoped that I could combine them to get music from DVDs without going through a digital-to-analog conversion immediately followed by an analog-to-digital conversion. In particular, there are different performances of songs on the DVD for A Mighty Wind than the ones on the soundtrack album. There are even some extra songs on the DVD that weren't in the movie or on the soundtrack. Wouldn't you know it, the jukebox's input is S/PDIF and the DVD player's output is something else. Ignorant of the mismatch, I just recorded twenty minutes of clicking. D'oh! Nothing is ever simple.

On the bright side, I just noticed a new version of Rockbox, the open source firmware replacement for the jukebox. They've once again added significant snazziness, including better navigation and several more games. Rock on, Rockbox!
