So, I've had a recent explosion of creativity in the past week. I completed a piece for string quartet and piano, it's about 4 minutes long and in 4 sections. It's the most I've composed since probably my second year of university, when the Lockerby bands performed "Requiem". Since then I've been doing almost nothing, minus arranging the odd piano piece.
On that note, I've decided to undertake a fairly time consuming project: A concert band piece divided up into nine separate sections. For each section I will draw my inspiration from one of the Circles of Hell found in Dante's Inferno. I'm thinking of it as taking a microscope to Robert W. Smith's interpretation of the Inferno from Divine Comedy. He composed three pieces for each section of the work.
This, of course, means that as I write each section I am going to have to be reading the relative Canto in The Inferno to draw inspiration from the words and images...
Gotta go!
