Oh my God, your words are out of balance

As a youth in the City of 'Greater' Sudbury, I have much that I would like to say right now. Most importantly of those things is: "Goodbye!". I cannot believe that any person (educated, or not) would even consider the idea of filling in wetlands and developing any sort of building over top. You say the current lot where St. Denis is would not fit a new building. I say, too bad! Make it fit.

The complete and utter lack of respect for the environment is a slap in the face to both the citizens of this city, and to the many people who worked for many years on the restoration project to ensure that Sudbury could once again be a beautiful city rich with wildlife and greenspace. It seems redundant to have spent all this money on ensuring we share the city with nature, only to come back to it later, cut down all the trees, fill in the wetlands and pave it. A city that, in theory, cares about the environment, but in reality would rather develop nature areas in the name of progress is not a place I would like to live. At least be honest about your intentions, and let the people who are of the age to vote decide.

I would no longer consider raising a family in Sudbury, knowing that we might live on a house that used to be a nesting ground for the Canada Goose. Or knowing that the place my children go to school used to be where a family of beavers lived. I know, it is hard to arrive in any city or town and expect to be housed in an area that wasn't once the territory of many species of animal. (What?!? Humans weren't the first ones there? Preposterous!) But, to actually go out of our way and make things worse for the wildlife is a horrible thing to do. I'm seeing a pattern: we develop an area to suit our needs and then complain when wildlife shows up to an area that was once used by them. We are the dominant species on this planet, able to adapt so well to our environment. Even to make it adapt to us. Should we not use this power to coexist with the other animals in our geographic area? There is potential to coexist peacefully with nature, but instead we continually use brute force and shove it out of the way.

That does not make humanity the greatest species on this earth. That makes humanity the playground bully, who picks on all the other smaller children to make himself feel better for his own shortcomings. That makes anyone who is for the proposal of filling in the wetland on Centennial Dr. a bully. You are the scourge of the earth.
