*Zooms in right under the wire* Hey Tam! Here's Jabez back, safe and sound!

Lost Souls

Rating: PG

He looked confused and utterly lost to her and if she were still functioning, her spark would've ached for the mech. As it was, Jabez felt for him and understood the position he was currently facing, for she and her femme creator had too found themselves coming to realize the shocking truth of their own situations. Perhaps that was what had drawn her to the mech within the Nexus.

Jabez walked towards the young mech, keeping her pace slow and making sure her steps were loud enough for the other to hear, she didn't want to startle him after all. Sure enough, after a few moments, the mech turned and looked at her with a raised optic ridge.

"Who are you?" He asked.

"My designation is Jabez." The femme replied.

"Mine is Quickstep." The young mech answered.

“A pleasure to meet you." Jabez inclined her helm. "Do you know where you are?"

Quickstep looked around and slowly shook his helm. "No, this place is unfamiliar to me - I don't recall ever seeing or being in this place."

'Understandable.' Jabez thought to herself, and then continued "What is the last thing you remember?"

Quickstep shifted his stance a little and his optics dimmed a little as he searched his memory banks to recall the details Jabez asked for. "I'm not entirely certain." He replied. "I remember that I was searching with a companion in an attempt to find our missing team, then there was a battle....and then there was darkness. When I opened my optics, I found myself here."

'Curious,' Jabez again thought to herself. 'That he would come here instead of going straight to the AllSpark, I wonder why.'

"You're in the Nexus." Jabez explained. "It is a place between dimensions, which is often frequented by different visitors from all kinds of places."

"I believe I understand, though I did not know such a place existed." Quickstep sounded curious and fascinated. "However, I would ask if you know how I might return to my own world? I do not wish to worry my friends back home and I am urgently needed there as it is."

Jabez's expression softened and grew sad, for the mech clearly didn't know what had happened to him and she certainly didn't want to have to fill in the gaps for him.

"I am sorry that I must tell you this, Quickstep, but it is not that simple I'm afraid."

"Why not?"

"Whatever happened in your dimension, it led to your deactivation." She told him regretfully.

The mech's optics widened and he took a step back, shaking his helm. "No, that...that cannot be correct...."

"I am sorry. It is little consolation I know, but I too have suffered the same fate, as has all those in my home. We are no longer online and though most have gone on to rest in the AllSpark, my femme creator and I remain to guard and protect it."

Quickstep stared at Jabez, but at the mention of the AllSpark, he felt a faint ache under his chestplates (where his spark used to reside) and he winced. "I do not understand..."

"That would be the call of the AllSpark." Jabez replied. "It is reaching out to you - you should allow its song to lead you to rest."

"It is not that." Quickstep replied. "I feel it, but there is something else....something telling me not to go, that I need to stay behind."

Jabez frowned for a moment, then her own optics widened in comprehension. 'That is why he has appeared here first! It is not his time to go to the AllSpark!'

"I feel conflicted." Quickstep admitted after a few moments of silence.

"What do you feel is the right thing to do?" Jabez asked.

Quickstep glanced away and eventually replied, "I feel I should stay here."

Jabez smiled warmly and nodded. "Then perhaps you would like to sit with me for a while and talk? Maybe something will happen that will show you what to do next?"

Quickstep looked back to Jabez, a little warily, but slowly he nodded. "Alright."

The two Cybertronians sat together and engaged in light conversation together, talking of things and experiences they had encountered in their own dimensions and eventually becoming more comfortable with each other. Jabez stayed with the young mech until he suddenly began to fade away, disappearing altogether and leaving the Autobot femme alone.

She smiled fondly and hoped he had gone back to whatever home he'd come from, feeling glad that he would get another chance - and in turn, feeling grateful that she had her femme creator with her so she wouldn't ever be alone.
