They follow the signal through old star-remnants and blackness. They limp through the nothingness, grasping after each faltering chord like a mech who has only known darkness grasps at light. They are desperate and stumbling, unable to hold it and unable to know that it is not a glitching remnant of Metroplex's ancient processor, but unable to stop reaching for it as though it is more.

Scamper has to be manually overridden to force him into recharge most of the time now, since when there is nothing else to be done he spends his time fanatically monitoring the communication’s equipment, checking receivers and tracking the signal through what seems like a forever of darkness and stars. If Metroplex doesn’t watch him, doesn’t have Six-Gun occasionally intervene with a carefully tugged wire in Scamper’s neck, the little drone would work himself to exhaustion chasing down what may not exist.

(But he is Metroplex, too.)Sometimes they lose the signal, always somewhere at the point where time becomes meaningless and their little bit of ( ... )

Old, crazy cities are awesome like no other. It is a fact. Slammer is apparently my favorite and I'm not entirely too sure how that happened. But it did. And I do not regret it in the least bit :D

I'm so glad you liked it! I'm never sure about my characterization when I try to write Metroplex, but I saw the prompt and I had to do it. Thank you!

Oh poor Met, so lonely. There's something about the idea of a great big, empty city just wandering through space that's so poignant. The way Met and his drones influence each other, both negatively and positively, is wonderfully described.
