I have started to ride my bike to the Loop for Summer SI instead of taking the el. It's infinitely better. I hesitated at first. The thought of a summer bike ride before work left me with thoughts of perspired clothing and the smell that accompanies it. So I've just been bringing a change of clothes and suddenly my morning commute is the highlight of my summer job.
After 'work,' I met with Dave to continue the day's theme of cycling. We rode up the lake shore trail to Nick's place in Rogers Park, just three miles north of Evanston. The trip amounted to about 7 miles there, then about 11 miles home adding in the trip to the Garfield Park Conservatory (a renowned conservatory in a forgotten and economically challenged neighborhood; i.e. ghetto).
A generally overcast day with periods of rain would have made for an unforgettable day if it weren't for the bike ride. That is until the weather redeemed itself on our (Me, Dave and Tristan) trip home from the China Buffet when it produced the first rainbow I've seen in recent memory. It's interesting how one forgets about a basic natural occurrence like a rainbow until it's right there arching miles over the entire skyline, disappearing into the peripherals of your vision.
Anyway, I knew working on a lesson plan for tomorrow would lead to a digression of some sort. It's nice to have a blank space to let your thoughts flow...
