I wanted to meet interesting and stimulating people of an ancient culture... and kill them.

I'm such an incredible voyeur that it creeps me out sometimes. Not a voyeur in the sense that I like to stand outside young girls windows, and watch them apply lotion. What I mean is, it pleases me to get a glimpse at someone's private life. Doesn't have to be juicy material or anything. Usually innocuous material is quite rewarding. I'm unsure why I do this. Perhaps it's because I have an acute sense of my self appearance, and I'm never comfortable with the way I carry myself. I really try not to care, but I worry entirely too much with how others perceive me. I feel that I gain valuable insight as to how normal people act, and I can mimic them if I'm unsure of the proper reaction.

A good source for the information I need is soosed (toothpastefordinner now.) I frequent that site mainly for the bizarre, randomness, and to quietly judge the deprivation of people on the internet. Other stuff, like people's vacation pictures, are oddly comforting. You'd think their journals would be a nice glimpse into their lives, but it's so artificial that it leaves me unsatisfied. If you're going to talk about yourself in a medium where you know others will be reading, it's impossible to be totally objective (actually, it's impossible to step outside yourself, and get a completely accurate view of your persona.) It doesn't help when the population leans toward making themselves seem cooler, rampant embellishment, and a fear of revealing all details.

Lately, I've been using Limewire for my fix. Back in Dublin, when I first started using it, if someone had a rare song that I was looking for, or was downloading one of my favorites, I would browse their library. Some people would have thousands of files in there, and I'm not just talking about music and porn. When you install Limewire, there is an option that is automatically checked that asks if you want the installer to search your computer for shareable files. Limewire shares all sorts of things. Besides you standard music & videos, there is text (txt, rich text, your MS office suite files, pdfs, etc...), pictures (jpg, gif, bmp), executables complete with all the utility and batch files that come with them, compressed stuff (zip and sit), and html (your bookmarks.) Now, the supremely stupid that click through this process are sharing all of this media. For pictures I'll usually do a search with the common prefixes for digital cameras. You've probably noticed that most digital cameras save pictures beginning with DSC, DSN, DSCN, IMG, and so on. For text, I'll usually look for a conversation, IM log, to do lists, and essays. From there, if a person is sharing this stuff in the first place, then there's probably more, so I'll check out their library. Gives you a portrait of John/Jane Q. Public.

This deviation keeps coming. Surveillance equipment piques my interest, and lately, I've been toying with the idea of becoming a private investigator.

I haven't done a Bungie quote in ahwile, which is vaguely disturbing. I present you with a transmission from CCS Truth and Reconciliation to UNSC Pillar of Autumn.

You slave, toil, bleed and sweat for your food. And we shall eat it.
