The Dolphinating Of Damian

Aug 01, 2012 22:09

Had a few busy, moderately eventful days a couple of week ago. My friend Damian was staying at a hotel in Oslo with his semi-furry friend Biowulf from Monday until Thursday morning, and I met up with them Monday through Wednesday. Damian is one of the few Norwegian babyfurs I know of, which is a rare and elusive breed. I guess I've known him for around two - three years, and we've talked on and off. This was the first time we'd meet IRL.

Be warned, this journal entry does feature babyfur content. Nothing terribly graphic, but if the word "diaper" squeaks you, you might want to skip this one!

Monday. I brought Silwer along to meet up with them at their hotel, before heading off to Emphy's place for the evening, playing and watching stuff and dining on locally bred pizza (and I was more or less given carte blanche over the toppings on one of our three pizzas, which was fun). We ended up watching Wes Andersons' The Fantastic Mr. Fox (still a great film), the first episode of Mongrels (need to remember to start using "Morten Harket" as a casual swear), and played Perfect Dark and Worms. People seemed to have fun, though Damian was getting pretty sleepy towards the end, not having slept much due to their early flight, and I was worried he'd fall asleep on us. Fortunately he managed to stay awake until we parted ways later on in the evening.

Tuesday. We all attended a furmeet that had been organized by Chrono Wolf, which included casually chatting and snacking with the attending furs, then a short furwalk to the Norwegian royal palace to take some photos. As I seemed to be the only one there with an actual camera and not just a camera phone, I sort of ended up as the "official photographer". Got some pretty decent pictures!

Once the furmeet was over, Biowulf went off to hang with one of the other furs, so me and Damian had the hotel room to ourselves for a few hours. So we ended up doing what babyfurs do best when left to their own devices: play trading card games! Oh, and we also cubbed out. With me being a bit older, a bit more experienced, and a bit more "bulky" in my build, I ended up mostly taking on the care taker / big brother / babysitter role. I did my best to dolphinate him - as we've ended up playfully calling it - and we seemed to both enjoy it. It was cozy, relaxing, fun, a bit embarrassing, and probably other adjectives I can't think of right now. Did get a bit stressful towards the end when we found out Biowulf would be there soon though.

He followed me back to the subway, and was apparently a bit worried about being out this late in a big, scary city. I was tempted to hold his hand while we walked, but wasn't sure if he'd find it "cute and belittling" or "creepy and imposing". So in the end, I didn't. I think I'd already embarrassed him enough for the day by bringing him with me to buy him a baby bottle.

Wednesday. Okay, so bear with me, this is going to get a bit stressful and confusing... Prior to meeting up, there was a bit bit back and forth as to what would be happening when and with whom. Then it was decided we would go watch the new Spider-Man film at the cinema and try to have dinner - not necessarily in that order - but it was unclear whether or not his friend Biowulf would want to join. So I wasn't sure if we would get some alone time together or not, or whether I should try inviting some other local furs to tag along. I had another, non-furry friend who wanted to hang out a bit with me a bit first in Oslo, too.

So I make my way to Oslo and meet with my non-furry friend. I'm told Biowulf will be staying at the hotel room and not joining us for the day, so I figure Damian can join me and my friend for a bit of browsing and maybe a game or two of Magic. Then Damian's friend ends up tagging along anyhow, who isn't a Magic player. So we just browse a bit, before my non-furry friend leaves. Damian's friend is hungry, and I'm getting a bit peckish too. Damian wants to watch the film before we have any sort of dinner, as he isn't too hungry yet, so me and Biowulf just end up getting some sushi. But, Biowulf isn't joining us for the film after all, and wants to head back to the hotel room to eat there and rest. We follow along, as it's also a good opportunity for grabbing, ahem, supplies, as I'd told Damian it might be wise to get him diapered before the film.

But now we're suddenly in a hurry, since it isn't too long until the movie starts, so we make our way there through the combined power of the subway and our feet. Except the ticket machine doesn't seem to like his card, which we use a minute or two on trying to fight with, but in the end he just has to ride without a valid ticket.

He still isn't diapered, and the plan is to try getting him diapered at a handicap stall. But, the stalls at the cinema are all pretty crowded, and it would be hard doing it inconspicuously. Plus, we're in a hurry! So he ends up doing it himself in a private stall, with me taking care of the snacks.

Once in the theater, I take off my shades, but can't seem to find my proper glasses! I'm worried I've lost them, and try my best to root around in my rucksack, and taking stuff out. There's no sign of them. I also have the tray of sushi I have yet been able to eat, which I now have to eat in the dark, without my glasses, but with 3D glasses on, using chopsticks. That should be some sort of achievement. And during the film I'm trying to figure out where I could've left my glasses, mentally retracing my steps, figuring out where I'd been and when I'd put them away. I also text my aforementioned non-furry friend to call one of the stores we'd visited and ask if they'd found a pair a pair of glasses.

Whew!

So naturally, I wasn't really all there during the film, wasn't able to fully get that into it, and had several "Wait, what's going on now?" moments. Guess I should re-watch it sometime when I'm less stressed and scatterbrained. But from what I picked up, I think I preferred the Sam Raimi films, but it did have the best Stan Lee cameo I've seen so far.

After the film, we were off to find a suitable place to get Damian changed. Fortunately we didn't have to look long, as a nearby mini-mall had a large rest room without much in the way of lines. I'm still a bit weary of changing someone at a public rest room after two previous, semi-traumatic, stressful experiences a while back, but this time it was relatively painless.

Then, after struggling with yet another subway ticket machine (this time the problem was that it had a timer, and I had too many small coins to be able to put them all in before the timer reset and you had to start from scratch - truly a wonder of modern engineering), we make our way back to downtown Oslo. We meet up with his friend and invite Emphy along, before we go to eat. We end up at a pretty cozy, semi-Italian restaurant, and we have a pretty good meal. Actually, my dinner was only so-so, but it was my fault for not ordering something more interesting. But the company was great, we had fun taking silly pictures, and we end the meal with a round of drinks; I wanted to buy Damian a cocktail as a small way to congratulate him for getting into the school he had applied to (which he'd just found out that morning). Though as I would be driving later, I only got a Virgin Colada.

Then we walk together to the junction where our paths diverge, talk for a while and share several hugs, before parting ways.

A pretty great way to end three fun, if somewhat tiring and at times slightly stressful, days.

Oh, and it turned out my glasses were in my rucksack all along.

Conclusion. All in all, it was a fun break from every day life, and it seemed like both Damian and his friend had fun too, making a few new friends and acquaintances along the way. Definitely hoping we can meet up again sometime next year, for more adventures in furmeets, babysitting, and dolphinating!
