I got home yesterday. There's something really exquisite about flying over a large metropolitan area. You're really able to see all the varied spectrums of life with a unique perspective that you miss when you're on ground level. You know when you live in certain places whether you live in the nice place, the not so nice place, the fabulous place, or the utterly despondent place. But when you're flying, you see how close they are, how arbitrary it seems that a kid living two miles from such and such neighborhood goes to a rinky dink school instead of one with fabulous accoutrements. You see the houses with pools, the trailer parks, and from thousands of feet they all look like toys. They all look like stuff we shouldn't put so much emphasis on. Maybe that's going to help us get through this holiday.
Austin had weather yesterday in the 50s and people were complaining about the cold. I find that very amusing. So far my parents' dial-up is driving me crazy. I will have to take my laptop out somewhere that has WiFi. That shouldn't be too hard in this town though.
I'm going to make a great big pot of coffee and read my book. It shall have no Latin, won't contain the phrases "per curiam" or "in pari delicto" and it shall make me laugh.
