Optimus Prime bowed his head as the funeral ceremony for the lost human element. "When will our eternal war end? Will it tear all life from existence before it dissipates?" He did not expect an answer.
"As long as life endures, there is hope."
"Sam." Optimus looked down at the human commander. "Forgive me, I did not notice your approach."
Samuel Witwicky stood with Optimus Prime at the end of the crows. "The war will end. There is still a chance for reconsilation between Autobots and Decepticons."
"Peace?" Optimus barked. "I long for it, but I fear old hatred will keep us at annihilation's edge."
"Jetfire was a Decepticon, wasn't he?" Sam persisted. "And Wheelie?"
Optimus Prime's engine rumbled in surprise. He had forgotten their origins.
"If those two can change factions, assisting the Autobots, then the remaining cons can reach an accord. That is, if they are as tired of fighting as you are."
Optimus watched Bumblebee's human charge mingle with the crowd of mourners, comforting grieving families. Samuel James Witwicky is right. As long as they lived, there remained a chance the ceaseless battles would end during his lifetime.
