Quiet had consumed the hanger that served as the medbay. Ratchet shook his head. He couldn’t bring himself to tell Optimus this time, not again. He knew their leader too well. It had looked hopeful this time. Everything had started off right. He had manually induced the Prime’s systems into action and the production of a clutch had actually started but… The medic’s optics went to the first of scans he’d taken in the hatchery. They were all sparkless and their leader would blame himself. His own systems whined as he repeated that determination. They had worked so hard. They had peace now for Primus’s Sake! His temper got the better of him and he flung the datapad as hard and as far as he could away from him only for it to tumble and knock the flame decorated leader in the pede.
Optimus crouched and with three fingers picked up the abused device. “My old friend.” He straightened and carried the piece of equipment back to the yellow green mech. “I came to ask the results but I fear that you’ve already given me the answer without saying a word.” The Prime’s hand set the datapad carefully on the crudely built counter. He stood close enough to let his field overlap with the tumultuous one of the medic.
“We can’t keep doing this. It takes too much resources, too much of your spark, too much of mine...” Ratchet’s bulky frame shuttered, and his field pulled in tight.
“It is hard, but we must.”
