Eyes And Optic's See Things

Ratchet was the first to suspect anything. No surprise there - he was not exactly sparked yestervorn and honestly they were remarkably... obvious about it, especially for being Optimus and Prowl.

It started inconspicuously enough, though. Ratchet had been Optimus' confidant pretty much right from the beginning, back when repairing space bridges was their duty and not rushing around like superheroes to save the day and battle Decepticons. But, insidiously, their young leader had found sympathetic audios and honest opinions elsewhere. Those shared hours of talking had spilled over to Prowl inserting himself into all conversations, drawing the ninjabot out of the shadows he so loved to lurk in.

He could clearly remember one particular conversation...

“It wasn't your fault, Optimus.”

Optimus had looked up, startling more violently than Ratchet himself did when the ninjabot appeared right besides them. Hoping that Optimus would maybe listen to him, the medic beat a hasty retreat, but couldn't help overhearing part of what they said.

“Prowl - I was careless. I should have known better than to trust a word Starscream said.”

“What else could you have done? He had hostages - putting them at risk was not an option.”

With his back turned and half-way out of the door, Ratchet could only hear the scowl in Optimus' voice. “Instead, I risked you. That's not... better.”

Prowl actually chuckled at that. “I would hope not.”

Still - you shuttered your optics and missed it and it reeked pretty much of 'friendship only' for a long while. Ratchet himself had only connected the dots in hindsight.

The first puzzle piece to truly light the proverbial bulb had been the personal space thing. It came to the point where you couldn't fit a sheet of paper between those two, speaking all hushed up, huddled together and that all the time. Had giggling and energon treats been involved too, Ratchet might have felt the need to purge his tank, with all that sudden sweetness...

Ratchet snorted, picked up his cloth again and resumed cleaning spare parts. His own thoughts sounded a bit too jaded and bitter in his own processor, like rusty Kup on a bad orn. That was more worrisome than two young 'bots acting all 'lovey-dovey', as the humans called it.

On the other servo - scratch that! Ratchet knew ninjabots and Prowl was right now humming around Optimus. The little glitch was practically sparking with him right under everybots optics - and the other kids didn't even realize it!

He glanced up and glowered at Prowl's back. The ninjabot sat meditating not far away, using the moment where Sari, Bee and Bulkhead were distracted by the TV show and therefore left him in peace. Of course Optimus was lingering nearby, looking positively bewitched by the ebb and flow of the ninjabot's wooing.

“At least get a room,” Ratchet growled to himself.

Of course he went ignored - by all but Sari, who managed to peel her eyes away from the monster truck race that had Bee jumping up and down with glee. She grinned at the grumpy medic.

“Finally caught up, did you, Ratch?”

“What?” the medic sputtered.

“It's called a woman's intuition,” Sari said, nodding sagely and forming a heart with her forefingers and thumbs, using it to frame the sight of Prowl and Optimus.
