Bumblebee onlined his optics, but when he tried to make sense out of the swirl of blurry colours that met his vision and failed, he closed them again with a groan and rolled on his side, his body protesting against the movement in several places.
How had he gotten here again? His mind brought forward vague memories of a ridiculous stunt that had involved jumping onto Blitzwing and then holding on for dear life as the triple changer had transformed and taken to the air. Of course, the attack had failed miserably, and the last thing he could clearly remember was falling towards the ocean.
Strange, he didn’t feel like he was in water. He stretched a hand out experimentally, and sure enough felt hard solid rock beneath his fingers.
Something nudged him then, a large mass trying to be gentle that pushed at his torso and almost rolled him onto his back again.
“You alive?” a deep and vaguely familiar voice demanded of him.
Bumblebee forced himself to turn his optics back on, blinking a few times in order to make the blurry colours solidify into the square reptilian face of Grimlock, who was leaning down and watching him closely, the nudge having been from his nose, which was still only inches away from Bumblebee.
“You wash up on shore. Me Grimlock find you and bring you here,” the Dinobot explained.
Bumblebee sat up slowly; Grimlock taking a step or two back to allow him to move. He blinked a few more times, trying to make sense of his surroundings. Grimlock had dumped him in a small rocky clearing, surrounded by the forest that covered most of Dinobot Island.
Oh well. Bumblebee figured there were worse places to be stuck for a couple of hours while he awaited rescue. He accessed his comm-link, trying to contact Optimus, and cursed as the comm picked up nothing but a loud burst of static.
“Slag!”
Grimlock titled his head and stared at the smaller mech intensely.
“You hurt?”
“Stupid comm-link’s broken.” Bumblebee frowned and tapped on the side of his head, right on top of his comm-link, but the static didn’t clear any. He slumped and let out a frustrated noise halfway between a sigh and a growl.
“You no worry,” Grimlock said, nudging him with his nose again. “Me Grimlock take good care of you.”
Grimlock took a couple of steps back, and regarded Bumblebee as though he was thinking about something very deep and important.
“You Bumblebee, right?”
“Yeah,” he replied, wondering when the leader of the Dinobots had bothered to learn his name.
Grimlock observed him for a few more seconds, before leaning down and nudging Bumblebee again, this time following the action with a brief nuzzle that made Bumblebee’s optics widen in surprise.
“Bumblebee be Grimlock’s friend now!” Grimlock proclaimed as though Bumblebee didn’t have a say in the matter. Bumblebee slumped again beneath the onslaught of another nuzzle and sighed. He’d just have to put up with this for a few days until his body was recovered enough to swim for the mainland, or someone came looking for him, right? This was no big deal, right?
----
Bumblebee woke up to see a pair of glowing red eyes watching him in the darkness. He’d been drifting in and out of recharge all day, and now that it was night he found himself in possession of quite a comfortable pillow. Grimlock had curled around him so that Bumblebee rested against his stomach, his tail wrapped protectively around the smaller mech’s torso to pull him closer.
Snarl and Swoop were curled up on the other side of the clearing in recharge. They had come to see Bumblebee a couple of times during the day, but hadn’t shown as much interest in Bumblebee as their leader had.
“You no worry,” Grimlock repeated, in what would have to pass as the Dinobot equivalent of a whisper. “Grimlock protect you.”
Bumblebee felt the tail tighten around him and was surprised once more by how gentle and protective Grimlock was being with him, and for a moment considered asking if there was something he’d missed. Grimlock didn’t have any real reason to be so friendly with him, did he? Well, apart from Bumblebee being an Autobot, but that had never stopped the Dinobots from being unfriendly before.
“Uh, thanks I guess,” Bumblebee said, as he leaned into Grimlock, surprised at how comforting this was. He could feel Grimlock’s spark pulsing inside his chest, the warm steady rhythm threatening to lull him straight back into recharge. Grimlock continued to watch him, confusion apparent on his face as though he didn’t know what to do when someone thanked him.
Bumblebee’s optics met with those of the larger mech and stayed there. It occurred to him then how intimate their current situation was, but he was far too tired and comfortable to object.
“It okay,” Grimlock finally replied, breaking the stare by settling back down and offing his optics. “Me Grimlock like this. You nice to curl up with.”
Bumblebee smiled and figured he’d take that as a compliment.
----
It took Bumblebee less than a minute to decide that while Grimlock’s chest was comfortable, his back certainly was not. Grimlock had flung the smaller mech onto his back and told him to hold on. Despite Bumblebee’s very vocal complaints, Grimlock seemed determined to cart him around everywhere with him that day, under the pretence of showing Bumblebee around the island.
Grimlock stopped stomping around for a moment, and looked up at a particularly large tree with rapt fascination.
“Oh joy,” Bumblebee said, sarcasm so thick that even Grimlock must have been able to detect it if he had been paying the smaller mech any attention. “Another tree. Who would have thought there would be another one amongst the thousands of other trees on this stinking rock?”
Bumblebee took the opportunity to shift a little and get comfortable. Most of his body was still aching, and Grimlock’s little tour certainly hadn’t helped. Right now all he wanted was to curl up, go back into recharge and ignore the pains his processor kept warning him about.
“Why are we still here?” Bumblebee groaned. “If I wanted to stare at a tree I could have done that any time I wanted back home, and annoyed Prowl at the same time.”
“We here because me Grimlock say we be here!” Grimlock said, stomping so hard that Bumblebee almost fell off. “You being dumb and not looking!”
Bumblebee sighed and glared back up at the tree again. “Looking at what? It’s just a dumb... tree...”
Bumblebee blinked a few times as he saw what Grimlock had been looking at. Sure enough, nestled between a couple of sturdy looking branches was a bird’s nest, complete with three large speckled eggs. The birds flew back now that Grimlock’s stomping had ceased, one standing on the side on lookout, while the other settled on top of the eggs.
Bumblebee watched the pair for a few seconds, before chuckling softly and patting Grimlock on the head, an action which didn’t even cause him to look away from the nest.
“You’ve been hanging around Prowl too much, buddy.”
Grimlock snorted, a sound which didn’t sound altogether happy.
“Prowl good mech,” Grimlock asserted as he finally turned away from the nest and started heading back to their camp. “Not pretty like Bumblebee though.”
Not *pretty*, Bumblebee thought, slightly alarmed that the word had even come out of Grimlock’s vocaliser. What the slag was Grimlock thinking?
----
After two more days, Bumblebee was sick of it. He still wasn’t completely healed, in part because of Grimlock’s insistence on dragging Bumblebee with him wherever he went, but he was willing to risk the swim back to the mainland. It was either that or risk being mollycoddled to death. He felt like he was one of the soft toys humans carried around with them.
Grimlock curled up with him every night, never asking if Bumblebee wanted to be cuddled or petted or nuzzled and probably not caring, and throughout the day there was more nuzzling and cuddling and being carted around to do whatever Grimlock felt like doing, and plenty of yelling every time Bumblebee objected or did something Grimlock didn’t approve of.
Part of him was afraid of what Grimlock’s reaction was going to be, but after the Dinobot leader had saved him, Bumblebee figured he at least owed Grimlock a goodbye.
The reaction was worse than he had feared.
Grimlock stomped so hard small cracks appeared in the ground beneath him.
“You no leave!” he shouted, more of a command than a plea. “You stay here with Grimlock!”
“You may not like it bolt-brain, but I can’t stay here anymore!”
Grimlock’s response to this was to stomp harder and to whirl around; torching a large portion of the surrounding vegetation with his flame-breath in what was probably intended to be a show of might.
“Sheesh! Would you stop with the stomping already!? My circuits are sore enough as it is!”
“YOU NO LEAVE!” Grimlock repeated, stomping some more for good measure before bringing his reptilian face close to Bumblebee and glaring, the threat obvious, even without words.
Bumblebee didn’t let himself feel intimidated.
“It may not have occurred to you, but I’ve got a life to get back to! The others probably think I’m dead by now!”
This seemed to shut Grimlock up. The Dinobot ceased stomping and pulled back from Bumblebee, but only slightly. He appeared to think for a moment, before leaning in and briefly nuzzling Bumblebee, the action catching the small yellow mech off guard to the stage that he almost fell flat on his aft.
“You stay until tomorrow,” Grimlock insisted. “Stay for night then leave in morning.”
Bumblebee figured the compromise was as good as he was going to get.
“Yeah. All right I guess.” Bumblebee sighed and leaned forward, giving Grimlock’s head a rather awkward half-embrace. If he had been looking, Bumblebee would have seen Grimlock smile.
----
Bumblebee remembered falling asleep against Grimlock’s chest as normal, one T-Rex arm and the tail wrapped around him protectively. He didn’t remember anything about *this*.
Gone was the rocky ground and trees full of chirping birds. His surroundings now were cold metal and stone, dirty and falling apart in spots from months of neglect. Bumblebee’s only guess was that he was in whatever remained of Meltdown’s secret lab.
He sat up, the action made slightly more difficult by the shackles around his neck and hands. He moved his hands up to his neck, relieved that the chains on his arms allowed that much, but his collar wouldn’t budge. He pulled against the chains, but with absolutely no effect.
He looked around the room, which was completely bare and closed in, apart from a wide doorway at one end.
What the slag had happened? Where was Grimlock?
“Hey!” Bumblebee shouted, his voice echoing through the building. “Somebody better come and let me out of these!”
For a moment there was no response, but then he felt it; the slow heavy thumps of Grimlock’s stomping. The Dinobot soon appeared in the entrance to the room, eyes ablaze with something Bumblebee couldn’t quite identify.
“Me Grimlock check rest of building.” The larger mech’s tone was surprisingly, disturbingly calm. “It safe here.”
“That’s great. Now help me break out of these chains!” Bumblebee tugged at them for emphasis before his hands were hit by a deliberate swipe from Grimlock’s tail.
Grimlock transformed to robot mode and took a couple of steps towards the small yellow captive. He leaned down, towering over Bumblebee, and said, with a calm voice that said there no point in arguing, “You no leave.”
Bumblebee laughed nervously, not sure that he liked whatever direction this was going in. Grimlock was dangerous when he wanted to be; they all knew that; and right now Grimlock seemed very, very angry with him.
Grimlock reached out for him. Bumblebee pressed as hard as he could against the wall, trying to escape the undoubtedly furious Grimlock with absolutely no success.
“Come on now. We’re both reasonable mechs, right? There’s no reason to go doing anything rash, especially if it’s going to hurt.” Bumblebee’s vocal processor began to ramble, everything short of an actual plea spilling out his lips.
The arms wrapped around Bumblebee, pulling him close. Bumblebee was extremely surprised to feel Grimlock nuzzling him again, the action feeling somewhat different while the other mech was in robot mode. The yellow mech was more than a little embarrassed to feel his insides tingling happy at the action. Maybe that had less to do with the fact that it was Grimlock, however, and more to do with the fact that he was practically moaning against Bumblebee’s armour and, Primus, did Grimlock just lick his chest plate?
“Me Grimlock not hurt you,” he insisted. “Me be gentle; make you Bumblebee feel good too.”
Bumblebee froze, for the first time in his life feeling completely speechless. Grimlock actually intended to do *that*? Bumblebee began to wonder if the larger mech actually knew how to interface at all, but the fingers that began to scrape clumsily at his codpiece seemed to prove that yes, despite all odds, Grimlock had somehow learned, or maybe just instinctively knew, how to interface with another mech.
Or maybe not. The hands continued to scrape at the codpiece, causing Bumblebee to start to writhe and press against Grimlock, ashamed as he realised just how desperate he was for more from the larger mech. He mewled and pulled against the chains, the small sound bringing a large grin to Grimlock’s face.
“See! Me make you feel good!”
As much as he wanted to deny it, what the Dinobot said was right. If he had been asked a couple of days ago whether he would interface with Grimlock, Bumblebee would have laughed. Now however, he wanted nothing more than the Dinobot’s cable shoved into his already aching port.
Grimlock continued to rub and scrape at Bumblebee, until the smaller mech had had enough.
“Would you just slagging ‘face me already?!” Bumblebee screamed, his voice echoing throughout the empty building.
Grimlock stared at Bumblebee for a moment, confusion clear on his face, and Bumblebee realised that his original assumptions about the Dinobot had been correct. Grimlock didn’t have a slagging clue what he was doing.
Bumblebee sighed loudly, body immediately losing some of its tension.
“For Primus’s sake idiot!” He would have hit Grimlock over the head right then if he hadn’t been chained, and settled for glaring at him instead. When all he got in response was the same confused look, he felt his anger lessen somewhat. He may as well have kicked a puppy from the way Grimlock’s optics were shining. “Unchain me and I’ll show you how it’s done.”
This certainly got a reaction.
“No!” Grimlock screamed. “Me not going to let you get away!”
“Fine. Why has my first face in this long gotta be with someone that doesn’t have a slagging clue what they’re doing?!”
Bumblebee tried to press against Grimlock’s hand again, whimpering when he realised that the Dinobot had pulled his hand too far back for his chains to reach.
“Slag it,” he whined, hating the needy tone of his own voice. “Touch me Grimlock. Please!”
Grimlock returned to rubbing Bumblebee’s codpiece with the same teasing, scratching motions.
“Uh... Okay, now open me up. Just, take the armour off!”
Grimlock fumbled for a few more seconds, before Bumblebee’s codpiece finally came off, falling to the ground with a clang. It wasn’t much, but the simple lack of armour; the feeling of air against his port and cable, brought a small amount of relief to the yellow mech, and he smiled at having made at least this much progress.
“Okay... now yours...” Bumblebee continued to instruct, wishing desperately that he could just reach out and tear Grimlock’s groin panel off himself. It had been so long since he’d faced with anyone, and his cable was already tense and tingling.
Bumblebee squirmed as he watched Grimlock clumsily tear off his own panel and throw it on the floor beside the other codpiece. He grinned as he looked down to discover a cable equally as firm and ready for interfacing as his own.
Grimlock simply stared at him, waiting for further instruction.
“Okay...” Bumblebee nodded. “Now, stick your cable in my port and mine... in... oh slag!”
Grimlock had wasted no time in following Bumblebee’s instructions, slamming his cable into the smaller mech’s port with no show of gentleness. Bumblebee gasped and whimpered for a while as Grimlock pulled in and out, apparently getting the hang of it rather quickly and writhing against Bumblebee’s smaller form in a desperate attempt to gain more pleasure.
“M... Mine too...” Bumblebee managed to gasp in between the surges of pleasure that were rushing through his circuits.
Grimlock grabbed Bumblebee’s cable between his fingers, being infinitely more gentle with it than he had with his own, plugging it into his port with a loud, pleasure-filled moan that sent shivers through Bumblebee’s circuits. The pleasure was doubled now, and both mechs continued to let out a variety of moans and gasps and whimpers.
Grimlock seemed unable to properly control himself now, so Bumblebee attempted to set some sort of pace, rocking backwards and forwards as much as the chains would allow. Grimlock simply whimpered in response, wrapping Bumblebee in his arms and pressing him against the wall with his large form.
Bumblebee began to increase the pace, moaning and calling for Grimlock as the pleasure surging through both of their bodies increased. He managed to wrap his arms loosely around Grimlock’s shoulders now that the larger mech was so close, and clung to him as much as he could. After a while he brought his legs up to wrap around Grimlock as well, their bodies pressing as close to one another as possible.
After a few more thrusts, any semblance of rhythm to their movements slipped away as Bumblebee too began to turn into little more than a writhing mess. Grimlock slammed against Bumblebee one last time, screaming as overload took him. The surge of power brought on by the Dinobot’s overload quickly sent Bumblebee into one as well, and his own voice joined Grimlock’s in echoing through the ruins.
Grimlock collapsed against Bumblebee with a quiet groan while the yellow mech was still gasping and riding out the last few waves of his overload. After a while Bumblebee relaxed as well, his head resting on Grimlock’s shoulder, but his arms and legs didn’t move from their positions, and he continued to cling to the older mech.
Grimlock was the first to speak, slowly pulling himself up so that Bumblebee wasn’t pressed quite so hard against the wall.
“If me let you go, you no leave?” There was a desperation in Grimlock’s voice, as though he would have been willing to give up everything else he could if Bumblebee would only be willing to stay with him, and Bumblebee really didn’t have the spark to crush that.
He smiled; far too content with what had been a rather incredible overload to object.
“Yeah,” he whispered. “As long as we can do that again I’m not going anywhere.”
Grimlock’s face brightened up in the largest smile possible. He cradled Bumblebee in one arm, while the other reached up to break the chains holding Bumblebee to the wall, first crushing the one attached to the collar around Bumblebee’s neck, then moving on to the chains holding his arms. The collar and bands around his wrists stayed, but Bumblebee was far too content at that moment to care.
Grimlock nuzzled against Bumblebee’s helm. Bumblebee grinned and nuzzled back, finding the action to be a lot more appealing that Grimlock was in robot mode. He had admittedly had his suspicions about what the larger mech had been feeling for him for a while, but now that he knew it was true; that in whatever way it was, Grimlock truly cared for him; he found that leaving the island suddenly seemed a lot less appealing.
----
When Prowl, Optimus and Bulkhead arrived on Dinobot Island to find Bumblebee curled up against Grimlock’s chest, collar on his neck and shackles around his arms, it took them a couple of minutes to recover from the surprise.
None of them asked what had happened to Bumblebee over the past few days, at least not yet, and quickly explained that they had been looking for Bumblebee in the hopes that he was still online. Bumblebee told them only that Grimlock had saved him and taken care of him. No mention was made of the bands around his neck and wrists however, and the rest of the group seemed content to not talk about them until Bumblebee seemed ready.
Grimlock watched from a little way away as the others reported back to base that Bumblebee was coming home, his optics fixed on Bumblebee and the wide smile that had been fixed on his faceplates since of the arrival of his teammates.
He waited for a reasonably quiet moment before he spoke.
“Bumblebee has to leave now?”
The other Autobots turned to Grimlock, amazed to see such a sad look on the Dinobot’s face.
“Yes, he does,” Optimus replied, unable to keep the surprise he felt from showing in his features.
At least Prowl seemed to understand the Dinobot’s feelings a little more, and he smiled softly at Grimlock. “Thank you for taking care of Bumblebee. He’s better now thanks to you. Now he has to get back to the mainland.”
Grimlock nodded sadly but didn’t object. At least not out loud. Prowl and Optimus had both made it very clear that this had to happen, whether Grimlock approved of it or not.
Bumblebee could see the objection clear in his optics though. They begged the other Autobots not to take Bumblebee away.
Bumblebee sighed and pulled away from Prowl for a moment, his feet very slowly and carefully taking him back to stand directly in front of Grimlock. Those optics fixed on him then, looking so full of hope and pain that Bumblebee felt a part of his spark break. Very slowly, Bumblebee reached up with both arms and wrapped them around Grimlock’s nose.
“Don’t worry,” Bumblebee said as he nuzzled in, his hand running along the nose in a gentle caress. “I’ll be back. I promise.”
