Prompt : Opportunity

(ooc - open post. Anybody can come across Swindle in the caves or comm him!)

As the death of Swindle’s sparkmate receded into the past and his relations with the other Combaticons improved, Swindle felt better and better, and he thought more and more of ways in which he could return to his old ‘profession ....’

Swindle was interrupted from his pleasant musings about how best to make money in the Nexus by a prompt flashing in his HUD. Hey - those things! He’d almost forgotten they existed. Having been far too preoccupied - for one reason or another - to respond for several months now, he’d relegated them to a part of his processor categorized ‘not absolutely relevant’. This one, however, appeared to have found its way into mainstream processing.

And it was persistent: "opportunity .... opportunity .... opportunity ...."

Well! It was hardly surprising, given his recent deliberations.

Deciding the revelation of this particular prompt just had to be a ‘sign,’ Swindle decided it was time to leave the Combaticon base once more. So he gathered his weaponry together, checked that his heater was in working order, and headed out, again leaving a note for Vortex and Blast Off which read: ‘Gone to check something out. Shouldn’t be long. Comm me!’

As he stepped out of the entrance and powered thrusters, rising into the chilly air and cranking his heater to maximum, Swindle felt profoundly happy that these days his team mates wouldn’t think he was up to some dastardly deed inconsistent with their interests.

The air was crisp and clear and the sun shone upon a white vista below, as Swindle headed for the caves, where he and his alternate self sparkmate had enjoyed their brief cohabitation. Observing the scene below, the smallest Combaticon took care to head for the site of the former weapons stash. Stronger and recovered as he felt, he was by no means ready to brave the area of the rockfall, being still disturbed too often by dreams: swords thrusting... the dead face of his counterpart ... energon flowing .... And no, he was most definitely not up to stumbling across Swindle's mutilated body.

But the weapons storage area of the caves was a long way from the killing scene.

...............

Once inside the caves, the Combaticon switched to infra red and started to fossick around, quite enjoying the dark peace and comparative warmth of the dim surroundings and pleased at his apparent overcoming of former claustrophobia. Having discovered, after a little while, some very functional photon rifles, several boxes of grenades and some other explosives of an advanced and obviously belonging to his ex sparkmate’s universe technology, he began to feel rather pleased with himself.

The prompt buzzed again and Swindle smiled to himself, thinking that this was certainly not the only opportunity he had thought up of late.

g1 vortex, g1 swindle
